قد تكون طبيعة مرض سرطان الدم وعلاجاته المختلفة واحدة لجميع المرضى، ولكن الاختلاف في ردود أفعال المرضى تجاهه وكيفية استجاباتهم للإصابة وكيفية التوافق معها، منذ بدايتها والدخول في الأعراض، كل هذا يتحدد بعدة عوامل تختلف من مريض لآخر، وإن قدرة المريض على التوافق الناجح من عدمه يتوقف إلي حد كبير علي خبراته التي اكتسبها من الأسرة والمجتمع بشكل عام، وكذلك علي مدى نجاحه في بناء تصور إيجابي عن ذاته وتقديره لها، لذا هدفت هذه الدراسة الوصفية إلى التعرف على مستوى الاحتياجات التعليمية لمرضى سرطان الدم لدى 50 مريض بالغ مصاب بسرطان الدم باللاذقية، تم اختيارهم بطريقة العينة المتاحة. وجمعت البيانات باستخدام استبيان قام بتطويره الباحث بنفسه، حيث أظهرت الدراسة أن لدى 60% من المرضى مستوى عالي من الاحتياجات التعليمية المرتبطة بالأعراض، وأنه لدى 60% منهم مستوى متوسط من الاحتياجات التعليمية المرتبطة بمحور النشاط الجسماني، وأن لدى 50% منهم مستوى متوسط من الاحتياجات التعليمية المرتبطة بالحمية الغذائية. وقد أوصت الدراسة بالعمل على تطوير برامج تعليمية خاصة بمرضى سرطان الدم، تعنى بزيادة معلوماتهم حول مرض سرطان الدم وعلاجه والحمية الغذائية الخاصة به، بحيث يشترك بهذه البرامج المرضى وأسرهم.
