We study a continuum model of the weakly interacting Bose gas in the presence of an external field with minima forming a triangular lattice. The second lowest band of the single-particle spectrum ($p$-band) has three minima at non-zero momenta. We consider a metastable Bose condensate at these momenta and find that, in the presence of interactions that vary slowly over the lattice spacing, the order parameter space is isomorphic to $S^{5}$. We show that the enlarged symmetry leads to the loss of topologically stable vortices, as well as two extra gapless modes with quadratic dispersion. The former feature implies that this non-Abelian condensate is a failed superfluid that does not undergo a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition. Order-by-disorder splitting appears suppressed, implying that signatures of the $S^5$ manifold ought to be observable at low temperatures.

In this paper, we study the nonequilibrium dynamics of the Bose-Hubbard model with the nearest-neighbor repulsion by using time-dependent Gutzwiller (GW) methods. In particular, we vary the hopping parameters in the Hamiltonian as a function of time, and investigate the dynamics of the system from the density wave (DW) to the superfluid (SF) crossing a first-order phase transition and vice-versa. From the DW to SF, we find scaling laws for the correlation length and vortex density with respect to the quench time. This is a reminiscence of the Kibble-Zurek scaling for continuous phase transitions and contradicts the common expectation. We give a possible explanation for this observation. On the other hand from the SF to DW, the system evolution depends on the initial SF state. When the initial state is the ground-state obtained by the static GW methods, a coexisting state of the SF and DW domains forms after passing through the critical point. Coherence of the SF order parameter is lost as the system evolves. This is a phenomenon similar to the glass transition in classical systems. When the state starts from the SF with small local phase fluctuations, the system obtains a large-size DW-domain structure with thin domain walls.
In this paper, we study the dynamics of the Bose-Hubbard model with the nearest-neighbor repulsion by using time-dependent Gutzwiller methods. Near the unit filling, the phase diagram of the model contains density wave (DW), supersolid (SS) and super fluid (SF). The three phases are separated by two second-order phase transitions. We study slow-quench dynamics by varying the hopping parameter in the Hamiltonian as a function of time. In the phase transitions from the DW to SS and from the DW to SF, we focus on how the SF order forms and study scaling laws of the SF correlation length, vortex density, etc. The results are compared with the Kibble-Zurek scaling. On the other hand from the SF to DW, we study how the DW order evolves with generation of the domain walls and vortices. Measurement of first-order SF coherence reveals interesting behavior in the DW regime.
We present an exactly-solvable $p$-wave pairing model for two bosonic species. The model is solvable in any spatial dimension and shares some commonalities with the $p + ip$ Richardson-Gaudin fermionic model, such as a third order quantum phase trans ition. However, contrary to the fermionic case, in the bosonic model the transition separates a gapless fragmented singlet pair condensate from a pair Bose superfluid, and the exact eigenstate at the quantum critical point is a pair condensate analogous to the fermionic Moore-Read state.
We discuss the superfluid properties of a Bose-Einstein condensed gas with spin-orbit coupling, recently realized in experiments. We find a finite normal fluid density $rho_n$ at zero temperature which turns out to be a function of the Raman coupling . In particular, the entire fluid becomes normal at the transition point from the zero momentum to the plane wave phase, even though the condensate fraction remains finite. We emphasize the crucial role played by the gapped branch of the elementary excitations and discuss its contributions to various sum rules. Finally, we prove that an independent definition of superfluid density $rho_s$, using the phase twist method, satisfies the equality $rho_n+rho_s=rho$, the total density, despite the breaking of Galilean invariance.
Synthetic spin-orbit (SO) coupling, an important ingredient for quantum simulation of many exotic condensed matter physics, has recently attracted considerable attention. The static and dynamic properties of a SO coupled Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC ) have been extensively studied in both theory and experiment. Here we numerically investigate the generation and propagation of a textit{dynamical} spin-density wave (SDW) in a SO coupled BEC using a fast moving Gaussian-shaped barrier. We find that the SDW wavelength is sensitive to the barriers velocity while varies slightly with the barriers peak potential or width. We qualitatively explain the generation of SDW by considering a rectangular barrier in a one dimensional system. Our results may motivate future experimental and theoretical investigations of rich dynamics in the SO coupled BEC induced by a moving barrier.
