beta-YbAlB_4 is the unique heavy fermion superconductor that exhibits unconventional quantum criticality without tuning in a strongly intermediate valence state. Despite the large coherence temperature, set by the peak of the longitudinal resistivity, our Hall effect measurements reveal that resonant skew scattering from incoherent local moments persists down to at least ~40 K, where the Hall coefficient exhibits a distinct minimum signaling another formation of coherence. The observation strongly suggests that the hybridization between f-moments and conduction electrons has a two component character with distinct Kondo or coherence scales T_K of ~40 K and 200 K; this is confirmed by the magnetic field dependence of rho_xy.

Heavy fermion compounds exhibiting a ferromagnetic quantum critical point have attracted considerable interest. Common to two known cases, i.e., CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$ and YbNi$_4$P$_2$, is that the 4f moments reside along chains with a large inter-chain dis tance, exhibiting strong magnetic anisotropy that was proposed to be vital for the ferromagnetic quantum criticality. Here we report an angle-resolved photoemission study on CeRh6Ge4, where we observe sharp momentum-dependent 4f bands and clear bending of the conduction bands near the Fermi level, indicating considerable hybridization between conduction and 4f electrons. The extracted hybridization strength is anisotropic in momentum space and is obviously stronger along the Ce chain direction. The hybridized 4f bands persist up to high temperatures, and the evolution of their intensity shows clear band dependence. Our results provide spectroscopic evidence for anisotropic hybridization between conduction and 4f electrons in CeRh$_6$Ge$_4$, which could be important for understanding the electronic origin of the ferromagnetic quantum criticality.
The Hall effect in SrRuO$_3$ thin-films near the thickness limit for ferromagnetism shows an extra peak in addition to the ordinary and anomalous Hall effects. This extra peak has been attributed to a topological Hall effect due to two-dimensional sk yrmions in the film around the coercive field; however, the sign of the anomalous Hall effect in SrRuO$_3$ can change as a function of saturation magnetization. Here we report Hall peaks in SrRuO$_3$ in which volumetric magnetometry measurements and magnetic force microscopy indicate that the peaks result from the superposition of two anomalous Hall channels with opposite sign. These channels likely form due to thickness variations in SrRuO$_3$, creating two spatially separated magnetic regions with different saturation magnetizations and coercive fields. The results are central to the development of strongly correlated materials for spintronics.
It has been known that the elemental Yb, a divalent metal at mbient pressure, becomes a mixed-valent metal under external pressure, with its valence reaching ~2.6 at 30 GPa. In this work, infrared spectroscopy has been used to probe the evolution of microscopic electronic states associated with the valence crossover in Yb at external pressures up to 18 GPa. The measured infrared reflectivity spectrum R(w) of Yb has shown large variations with pressure. In particular, R(w) develops a deep minimum in the mid-infrared, which shifts to lower energy with increasing pressure. The dip is attributed to optical absorption due to a conduction c-f electron hybridization state, similarly to those previously observed for heavy fermion compounds. The red shift of the dip indicates that the $c$-$f$ hybridization decreases with pressure, which is consistent with the increase of valence.

Inter-band effects of magnetic field on orbital magnetic susceptibility and Hall effect in weak magnetic field have been studied theoretically at absolute zero for the model of massless Fermions in two dimension described by Weyl equation similar to graphenes, which are simplified version of newly found one in molecular solids, arfa-ET2I3 described by tilted Weyl equation. The dependences on the Fermi energy of both orbital susceptibility and Hall conductivity near the zero-gap region scale with elastic scattering time and then are very singular.
We use high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compound CePt2In7, which is a member of the CeIn3-derived heavy fermion material family. Weak hybridizatio n among 4f electron states and conduction bands was identified in CePt2In7 at low temperature much weaker than that in the other heavy fermion compounds like CeIrIn5 and CeRhIn5. The Ce 4f spectrum shows fine structures near the Fermi energy, reflecting the crystal electric field splitting of the 4f^1_5/2 and 4f^1_7/2 states. Also, we find that the Fermi surface has a strongly three-dimensional topology, in agreement with density-functional theory calculations.
