In this paper, we compute the constrained QCD effective potential up to two-loop order with finite quark mass and chemical potential. We present the explicit calculations by using the double line notation and analytical expressions for massless quarks are obtained in terms of the Bernoulli polynomials or Polyakov loops. Our results explicitly show that the constrained QCD effective potential is independent on the gauge fixing parameter. In addition, as compared to the massless case, the constrained QCD effective potential with massive quarks develops a completely new term which is only absent when the background field vanishes. Furthermore, we discuss the relation between the one- and two-loop constrained effective potential. The surprisingly simple proportionality that exists in the pure gauge theories, however, is in general no longer true when fermions are taken into account. On the other hand, for high baryon density $mu_B$ and low temperature $T$, in the massless limit, we do also find a similar proportionality between the one- and two-loop fermionic contributions in the constrained effective potential up to ${cal O}(T/mu_B)$.

We compute the two-loop QCD corrections to the neutral Higgs-boson masses in the MSSM, including the effect of non-vanishing external momenta in the self-energies. We obtain corrections of O(alpha_t*alpha_s) and O(alpha*alpha_s), i.e., all two-loop c orrections that involve the strong gauge coupling when the only non-vanishing Yukawa coupling is the top one. We adopt either the DRbar renormalization scheme or a mixed OS-DRbar scheme where the top/stop parameters are renormalized on-shell. We compare our results with those of earlier calculations, pointing out an inconsistency in a recent result obtained in the mixed OS-DRbar scheme. The numerical impact of the new corrections on the prediction for the lightest-scalar mass is moderate, but already comparable to the accuracy of the Higgs-mass measurement at the LHC.
We present an analytic computation of the two-loop QCD corrections to $ubar{d}to W^+bbar{b}$ for an on-shell $W$-boson using the leading colour and massless bottom quark approximations. We perform an integration-by-parts reduction of the unpolarised squared matrix element using finite field reconstruction techniques and identify an independent basis of special functions that allows an analytic subtraction of the infrared and ultraviolet poles. This basis is valid for all planar topologies for five-particle scattering with an off-shell leg.
We analyse the role of the quark backreaction on the gauge-field dynamics and its impact on the Polyakov-loop potential. Based on our analysis we construct an improved Polyakov-loop potential that can be used in future model studies. In the present w ork, we employe this improved potential in a study of a 2+1 flavour Polyakov-quark-meson model and show that the temperature dependence of the order parameters and thermodynamics is closer to full QCD. We discuss the results for QCD thermodynamics and outline briefly the dependence of our results on the critical temperature and the parametrisation of the Polyakov-loop potential as well as the mass of the sigma-meson.
We compute the two-loop massless QCD corrections to the four-point amplitude $g+g rightarrow H+H$ resulting from effective operator insertions that describe the interaction of a Higgs boson with gluons in the infinite top quark mass limit. This ampli tude is an essential ingredient to the third-order QCD corrections to Higgs boson pair production. We have implemented our results in a numerical code that can be used for further phenomenological studies.
In this review article, we discuss the current status and future prospects of perturbation theory as a means of studying the equilibrium thermodynamic and near-equilibrium transport properties of deconfined QCD matter. We begin with a brief introduct ion to the general topic, after which we review in some detail the foundations and modern techniques of the real- and imaginary-time formalisms of thermal field theory, covering e.g. the different bases used in the real-time formalism and the resummations required to deal with soft and collinear contributions. After this, we discuss the current status of applications of these techniques, including topics such as electromagnetic rates, transport coefficients, jet quenching, heavy quarks and quarkonia, and the Equations of State of hot quark-gluon plasma as well as cold and dense quark matter. Finally, we conclude with our view of the future directions of the field, i.e. how we anticipate perturbative calculations to contribute to our collective understanding of strongly interacting matter in the coming years.
