We show how the onset of a non-Slater antiferromagnetic ordering in a correlated material can be detected by optical spectroscopy. Using dynamical mean-field theory we identify two distinctive features: The antiferromagnetic ordering is associated with an enhanced spectral weight above the optical gap, and well separated spin-polaron peaks emerge in the optical spectrum. Both features are indeed observed in LaSrMnO_4 [Gossling et al., Phys. Rev. B 77, 035109 (2008)]

We reexamine the Yang-Yang-Takahashi method of deriving the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations which describe strongly correlated electron systems of fundamental physical interest, such as the Hubbard, $s-d$ exchange (Kondo) and Anderson models. It is shown that these equations contain some additional terms which may play an important role in the physics of the systems.
We discuss the problem of a possible violation of the optical sum rule in the normal (non superconducting) state of strongly correlated electronic systems, using our recently proposed DMFT+Sigma approach, applied to two typical models: the hot - spot model of the pseudogap state and disordered Anderson - Hubbard model. We explicitly demonstrate that the general Kubo single band sum rule is satisfied for both models. However, the optical integral itself is in general dependent on temperature and characteristic parameters, such as pseudogap width, correlation strength and disorder scattering, leading to effective violation of the optical sum rule, which may be observed in the experiments.
The phase transition in the compound LiVGe2O6 has been proposed as a unique example of a spin-Peierls transition in an S=1 antiferromagnetic chain. We report neutron and x-ray diffraction measurements of LiVGe2O6 above and below the phase transition at T=24 K. No evidence is seen for any structural distortion associated with the transition. The neutron results indicate that the low temperature state is antiferromagnetic, driven by ferromagnetic interchain couplings.

The two-dimensional Hubbard model with a bimodal distribution of on-site interactions, P(U_i) = (1-f)delta(U_i-U) + fdelta(U_i), is studied using a finite temperature quantum Monte Carlo technique and dynamical mean-field theory. We find long range a ntiferromagnetic order off half-filling is stabilized by the disorder, due to localization of the dopants on the U=0 sites. Whereas in the clean model there is a single gap at n=1, for nonzero f we find the compressibility and density of states exhibit gaps at two separate fillings.
We introduce a new mathematical object, the fermionant ${mathrm{Ferm}}_N(G)$, of type $N$ of an $n times n$ matrix $G$. It represents certain $n$-point functions involving $N$ species of free fermions. When N=1, the fermionant reduces to the determin ant. The partition function of the repulsive Hubbard model, of geometrically frustrated quantum antiferromagnets, and of Kondo lattice models can be expressed as fermionants of type N=2, which naturally incorporates infinite on-site repulsion. A computation of the fermionant in polynomial time would solve many interesting fermion sign problems.
