We measure the relative abundances of strange mesons, baryons, and anti-baryons correlated with high-$p_T$ trigger particles in $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au collisions at $sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. Particle yields and ratios are extracted on the near-side and away-side of the trigger particle. The associate-particle ratios are studied as a function of the angle relative to the trigger particle azimuth $Deltaphi$. Such studies should help elucidate the origin of the previously observed correlations and their strong modifications in Au+Au collisions relative to p+p collisions. We discuss how these measurements might be related to several scenarios for interactions of fast partons with the medium in Au+Au collision.

We measure relative abundances of $K_{S}^{0}$, $Lambda$ and $bar{Lambda}$ in near-side and away-side cones correlated with triggered high-$p_{T}$ particles in $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au collisions at $sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. The centrality dependence o f identified particles in the triggered particle cones is also presented. Particle yields and ratios are extracted on the near-side and away-side of the trigger particle. The associate-particle ratios are studied as a function of the angle relative to the trigger particle azimuth $Deltaphi$. Such studies should help elucidate the origin of the modifications in the jet like correlations observed in Au+Au collisions relative to p+p collisions. And these studies also will help understand the variation of local parton densities at the away side. We discuss how these measurements might be related to several scenarios for interactions of fast partons with the medium created in Au+Au collision.
The measured particle ratios in central heavy-ion collisions at RHIC-BNL are investigated within a chemical and thermal equilibrium chiral SU(3) sigma-omega approach. The commonly adopted noninteracting gas calculations yield temperatures close to or above the critical temperature for the chiral phase transition, but without taking into account any interactions. Contrary, the chiral SU(3) model predicts temperature and density dependent effective hadron masses and effective chemical potentials in the medium and a transition to a chirally restored phase at high temperatures or chemical potentials. Three different parametrizations of the model, which show different types of phase transition behaviour, are investigated. We show that if a chiral phase transition occured in those collisions, freezing of the relative hadron abundances in the symmetric phase is excluded by the data. Therefore, either very rapid chemical equilibration must occur in the broken phase, or the measured hadron ratios are the outcome of the dynamical symmetry breaking. Furthermore, the extracted chemical freeze-out parameters differ considerably from those obtained in simple noninteracting gas calculations. In particular, the three models yield up to 35 MeV lower temperatures than the free gas approximation. The in-medium masses turn out differ up to 150 MeV from their vacuum values.
We investigate the consequences of long range rapidity correlations in the Glasma. Particles produced locally in the transverse plane are correlated by approximately boost invariant flux tubes of longitudinal color electric and magnetic fields that a re formed when two sheets of Colored Glass Condensate pass through one another, each acquiring a modified color charge density in the collision. We argue that such long range rapidity correlations persist during the evolution of the Quark Gluon Plasma formed later in the collision. When combined with transverse flow, these correlations reproduce many of the features of the recently observed ridge events in heavy ion collisions at RHIC.

The relationship between jet properties and the underlying geometry of the medium produced in heavy ion collisions can be explored through a measurement of the correlation between the axes of reconstructed jets and the reaction plane, defined as jet v2. Such a measurement provides information on the pathlength dependence of medium-induced parton energy loss and may also be used to assess biases in jet-finding methods. We present first measurements of jet v2 in sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions in the STAR experiment at RHIC. In order to reduce the artificial jet - event plane bias, which results from jet fragments being included in the event plane calculation, detectors at forward pseudorapidity are used to determine the event plane when measuring the v2 of reconstructed jets at mid-rapidity. These measurements demonstrate a non-zero jet v2, which is indicative of pathlength-dependent parton energy loss.
We present measurements of three-particle correlations for various harmonics in Au+Au collisions at energies ranging from $sqrt{s_{{rm NN}}}=7.7$ to 200 GeV using the STAR detector. The quantity $langlecos(mphi_1+nphi_2-(m+n)phi_3)rangle$ is evaluate d as a function of $sqrt{s_{{rm NN}}}$, collision centrality, transverse momentum, $p_T$, pseudo-rapidity difference, $Deltaeta$, and harmonics ($m$ and $n$). These data provide detailed information on global event properties like the three-dimensional structure of the initial overlap region, the expansion dynamics of the matter produced in the collisions, and the transport properties of the medium. A strong dependence on $Deltaeta$ is observed for most harmonic combinations consistent with breaking of longitudinal boost invariance. Data reveal changes with energy in the two-particle correlation functions relative to the second-harmonic event-plane and provide ways to constrain models of heavy-ion collisions over a wide range of collision energies.
