We study the impact on the epidemiological dynamics of a class of restrictive measures that are aimed at reducing the number of contacts of individuals who have a higher risk of being infected with a transmittable disease. Such measures are currently either implemented or at least discussed in numerous countries worldwide to ward off a potential new wave of COVID-19 across Europe. They come in the form of Health Passes (HP), which grant full access to public life only to individuals with a certificate that proves that they have either been fully vaccinated, have recovered from a previous infection or have recently tested negative to SARS-Cov-19 . We develop both a compartmental model as well as an epidemic Renormalisation Group approach, which is capable of describing the dynamics over a longer period of time, notably an entire epidemiological wave. In arXiv:1911.08172 we have studied the single-particle free energy of a class of Little String Theories of A-type, which are engineered by $N$ parallel M5-branes on a circle. To leading instanton order (from the perspective of the low energy $U(N)$ gauge theory) and partially also to higher order, a decomposition was observed, which resembles a Feynman diagrammatic expansion: external states are given by expansion coefficients of the $N=1$ BPS free energy and a quasi-Jacobi form that governs the BPS-counting of an M5-brane coupling to two M2-branes. The effective coupling functions were written as infinite series and similarities to modular graph functions were remarked. In the current work we continue and extend this study: Working with the full non-perturbative BPS free energy, we analyse in detail the cases $N=2,3$ and $4$. We argue that in these cases to leading instanton order all coupling functions can be written as a simple combination of two-point functions of a single free scalar field on the torus. We provide closed form expressions, which we conjecture to hold for generic $N$. To higher instanton order, we observe that a decomposition of the free energy in terms of higher point functions with the same external states is still possible but a priori not unique. We nevertheless provide evidence that tentative coupling functions are still combinations of scalar Greens functions, which are decorated with derivatives or multiplied with holomorphic Eisenstein series. We interpret these decorations as corrections of the leading order effective couplings and in particular link the latter to dihedral graph functions with bivalent vertices, which suggests an interpretation in terms of disconnected graphs.
We study a class of Little String Theories (LSTs) of A type, described by $N$ parallel M5-branes spread out on a circle and which in the low energy regime engineer supersymmetric gauge theories with $U(N)$ gauge group. The BPS states in this setting correspond to M2-branes stretched between the M5-branes. Generalising an observation made in arXiv:1706.04425, we provide evidence that the BPS counting functions of special subsectors of the latter exhibit a Hecke structure in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) limit, i.e. the different orders in an instanton expansion of the supersymmetric gauge theory are related through the action of Hecke operators. We extract $N$ distinct such reduced BPS counting functions from the full free energy of the LST with the help of contour integrals with respect to the gauge parameters of the $U(N)$ gauge group. Physically, the states captured by these functions correspond to configurations where the same number of M2-branes is stretched between some of these neighbouring M5-branes, while the remaining M5-branes are collapsed on top of each other and a particular singular contribution is extracted. The Hecke structures suggest that these BPS states form the spectra of symmetric orbifold CFTs. We furthermore show that to leading instanton order (in the NS-limit) the reduced BPS counting functions factorise into simpler building blocks. These building blocks are the expansion coefficients of the free energy for $N=1$ and the expansion of a particular function, which governs the counting of BPS states of a single M5-brane with single M2-branes ending on it on either side. To higher orders in the instanton expansion, we observe new elements appearing in this decomposition, whose coefficients are related through a holomorphic anomaly equation.
We investigate exotic supergravity theories in 6D with maximal (4,0) and (3,1) supersymmetry, which were conjectured by C. Hull to exist and to describe strong coupling limits of ${cal N}=8$ theories in 5D. These theories involve exotic gauge fields with non-standard Young tableaux representations, subject to (self-)duality constraints. We give novel actions in a 5+1 split of coordinates whose field equations reproduce those of the free bosonic (4,0) and (3,1) theory, respectively, including the (self-)duality relations. Evidence is presented for a master exceptional field theory formulation with an extended section constraint that, depending on the solution, produces the (4,0), (3,1) or the conventional (2,2) theory. We comment on the possible construction of a fully non-linear master exceptional field theory.

We study the structure of the non-perturbative free energy of a one-parameter class of little string theories (LSTs) of A-type in the so-called unrefined limit. These theories are engineered by $N$ M5-branes probing a transverse flat space. By analys ing a number of examples, we observe a pattern which suggests to write the free energy in a fashion that resembles a decomposition into higher-point functions which can be presented in a graphical way reminiscent of sums of (effective) Feynman diagrams: to leading order in the instanton parameter of the LST, the $N$ external states are given either by the fundamental building blocks of the theory with $N=1$, or the function that governs the counting of BPS states of a single M5-brane coupling to one M2-brane on either side. These states are connected via an effective coupling function which encodes the details of the gauge algebra of the LST and which in its simplest (non-trivial) form is captured by the scalar Greens function on the torus. More complicated incarnations of this function show certain similarities with so-called modular graph functions, which have appeared in the study of Feynman amplitudes in string- and field theory. Finally, similar structures continue to exist at higher instanton orders, which, however, also contain contributions that can be understood as the action of (Hecke) operators on the leading instanton result.
We analyse the symmetries of a class of A-type little string theories that are engineered by $N$ parallel M5-branes with M2-branes stretched between them. This paper deals with the so-called reduced free energy, which only receives contributions from the subset of the BPS states that carry the same charges under all the Cartan generators of the underlying gauge algebra. We argue (and check explicitly in a number of examples) that the former is invariant under the paramodular group $Sigma_Nsubset Sp(4,mathbb{Q})$, which gets extended to a subgroup of $Sp(4,mathbb{R})$ in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili-limit. This extension agrees with the observation made in arXiv:1706.04425 that these BPS states form a symmetric orbifold CFT. Furthermore, we argue that $Sigma_N$ (along with other symmetries) places strong constraints on the BPS counting function that governs the intersection between the M5- and M2-branes.
Recent studies (arXiv:1610.07916, arXiv:1711.07921, arXiv:1807.00186) of six-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories that are engineered by a class of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds $X_{N,M}$, have uncovered a vast web of dualities. In this paper we a nalyse consequences of these dualities from the perspective of the partition functions $mathcal{Z}_{N,M}$ (or the free energy $mathcal{F}_{N,M}$) of these theories. Focusing on the case $M=1$, we find that the latter is invariant under the group $mathbb{G}(N)times S_N$: here $S_N$ corresponds to the Weyl group of the largest gauge group that can be engineered from $X_{N,1}$ and $mathbb{G}(N)$ is a dihedral group, which acts in an intrinsically non-perturbative fashion and which is of infinite order for $Ngeq 4$. We give an explicit representation of $mathbb{G}(N)$ as a matrix group that is freely generated by two elements which act naturally on a specific basis of the Kahler moduli space of $X_{N,1}$. While we show the invariance of $mathcal{Z}_{N,1}$ under $mathbb{G}(N)times S_N$ in full generality, we provide explicit checks by series expansions of $mathcal{F}_{N,1}$ for a large number of examples. We also comment on the relation of $mathbb{G}(N)$ to the modular group that arises due to the geometry of $X_{N,1}$ as a double elliptic fibration, as well as T-duality of Little String Theories that are constructed from $X_{N,1}$.
We discuss the formulation of classical field theoretical models on $n$-dimensional noncommutative space-time defined by a generic associative star product. A simple procedure for deriving conservation laws is presented and applied to field theories in noncommutative space-time to obtain local conservation laws (for the electric charge and for the energy-momentum tensor of free fields) and more generally an energy-momentum balance equation for interacting fields. For free field models an analogy with the damped harmonic oscillator in classical mechanics is pointed out, which allows us to get a physical understanding for the obtained conservation laws. To conclude, the formulation of field theories on curved noncommutative space is addressed.
