This paper investigates bounds on the generative capacity of prosodic processes, by focusing on the complexity of recursive prosody in coordination contexts in English (Wagner, 2010). Although all phonological processes and most prosodic processes ar e computationally regular string languages, we show that recursive prosody is not. The output string language is instead parallel multiple context-free (Seki et al., 1991). We evaluate the complexity of the pattern over strings, and then move on to a characterization over trees that requires the expressivity of multi bottom-up tree transducers. In doing so, we provide a foundation for future mathematically grounded investigations of the syntax-prosody interface.
This paper presents EstBERT, a large pretrained transformer-based language-specific BERT model for Estonian. Recent work has evaluated multilingual BERT models on Estonian tasks and found them to outperform the baselines. Still, based on existing stu dies on other languages, a language-specific BERT model is expected to improve over the multilingual ones. We first describe the EstBERT pretraining process and then present the models' results based on the finetuned EstBERT for multiple NLP tasks, including POS and morphological tagging, dependency parsing, named entity recognition and text classification. The evaluation results show that the models based on EstBERT outperform multilingual BERT models on five tasks out of seven, providing further evidence towards a view that training language-specific BERT models are still useful, even when multilingual models are available.
Vector representations have become a central element in semantic language modelling, leading to mathematical overlaps with many fields including quantum theory. Compositionality is a core goal for such representations: given representations for wet' and fish', how should the concept wet fish' be represented? This position paper surveys this question from two points of view. The first considers the question of whether an explicit mathematical representation can be successful using only tools from within linear algebra, or whether other mathematical tools are needed. The second considers whether semantic vector composition should be explicitly described mathematically, or whether it can be a model-internal side-effect of training a neural network. A third and newer question is whether a compositional model can be implemented on a quantum computer. Given the fundamentally linear nature of quantum mechanics, we propose that these questions are related, and that this survey may help to highlight candidate operations for future quantum implementation.
Food Industries are among the most important and ancient industries in Syria. The most famous kinds of it are: Yogurt and cheese industries, biscuit and juice industries. Food industries' factories are special because of its many production lines a nd its machines and of the preparation needed. The purpose of this research is to study noise resulted by machines in companies of food industries by measuring noise levels with an anchor equipment and comparing the results with international standards in order to estimate the amount of dosages that workers in industrial establishments face, and then to conclude appropriate recommendations to reduce noise levels.
Introduction: Maternal body mass index (BMI) has an impact on maternal and fetal pregnancy outcome. Aim : To investigate the effect of pre-pregnancy BMI on adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes in a sample of Syrian pregnant women attending Tishreen University Hospital .
