Storage is one of the main services provided by the container terminals to its customers. The competition between these terminals is very strong to provide the best services and efficiency that reduces the time of containers in the yards to the low est time. This reflects an increase in productivity and reduction in storage costs, that is very important to the shipping agents, so it had to work on the continuous re-preparation of the yards and transport equipment commensurate with rapid changes and the great development in the number of containers. The study focused on methods of calculating the theoretical storage capacity of the container terminals and applying them to the research terminal and comparing the results with the actual reality and actual productivity of the fully and empty container yards, and the global values of the modern container terminals, and calculation of the values of one of the most important indicators of use, that is the indicators of use of yard which reflects the efficiency of the use of available resources in the yards of the station.
Container transportation is one of the essential elements of modern ren aissance in shipping business in the world. Due to its extremely important, most countries have focused (especially the developed ones) on development of their maritime fleets and ports, in order to be able to keep up and keep the remarkable development and extremely rapid progress in containerization technology. Port capabilities should be commensurate with the developments in maritime transport fleets and their transport patterns represented by container vessels that require advanced port services such as high efficiency of workers and cranes, and modern and fast performance specialized equipments, and modern electronic systems. The study addressed the basic criteria for the level of services in the container terminals that have been identified in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNICTAD 2012, These criteria were applied to Lattakia International Container Terminal (LICT), where the relative waiting time ε and productivity coefficient (P) were calculated for the duration of the ship's stay in the port, and the statistical indicators of the times of ships at the Lattakia International Container Terminal and the container handling rates was studied during the period Extending from 2014 to 2017, The study concluded that the average wait time relative ε achieved the value of 0.0553, which put it at level B which is the second level of four levels, A, B, C, D, in addition to the level B is also achieved by productivity coefficient (P) and the value of 54.4 during the The study period.
This research includes evaluating the work of maintenance of themachines through their own key performance indicators (KPI), and approved byindustrial and service companies, We mention reliability, readiness ,average time between failures, average Repair time ,average time of periodic maintenance of their production and serviceequipment. After the data processing of emergency failures and periodic maintenanceof machines , we extracted values for maintenance performanceindicators, we measured their performance and correlation to evaluateits compatibility with global indicators. The research aim to assess the current situation through the use ofquantitative methods pattern which is used to access the values of theprevious mentioned performance indicators and their interdependence tobe used in support of maintenance decisionsin the container terminal later. We noticed a strong inverse association between periodic maintenance TPMtime and breakdown TBD, and reached a value rERS = -0.99, and thereforewe must focus on increasing periodic maintenance to reduce breakdowntime, and replace parts that cause recurringproblems which caused about intensive breakdowns, thus reducing periodicmaintenance time. Also we were able to classify the quality of maintenance and machinesthrough the readiness and reliability indicators and the mean timebetween failures.
The research aims to identify the electronic management role in improving the performance of Lattakia Port Container Terminal through the study of the relationship between each of the mail planning, organizing mail, execution-mail, electronic contr ols, and improve the performance of Lattakia Port Container Terminal. Adopted Find descriptive approach, and included the research community beneficiaries of the container port of Latakia agents offshore and sincerely customs agents terminal services, totaling (68) are working effectively, where BI views using the comprehensive inventory, has been restored (65) complete and valid for statistical analysis form.
With the increasing population, the rising standards of living, industrial progress and rapid technological advancement, solid waste has varied and increased in amount as a result of various human activities. Thus, waste disposal has become one of the main problems facing cities and human populations because of the dangers posed by this waste to the environment and natural resources and health. Therefore, the development of an integrated management system for solid waste has become one of the most important elements of urban development strategies. Traditional management of municipal solid waste disposal, which includes collection, transfer and backfilling or burning operations, has evolved the concept of disposal of solid waste during the previous decades and begun waste management programs that focus on the use of computer programs such as geographic information systems, which help environmental planning for cities, and selection of the most optimal and economical solutions and. This study includes the use of geographic information systems software technology in the planning and selection of the optimal paths to collect and relay solid waste containers in the city of Latakia. In fact, selecting these routes undergoes the equations of length and time as to choose the shortest path, taking into account traffic regulations and diesctions in the streets. As for time, it takes the shortest path in terms of speeds specified for each road.
In view of the economic efficiency of container transport we determine reality and prospects for the development of container transport in Syria and issues that impede growth in container handling at the port of Latakia, by examining the number of in coming and outgoing containers and cargo quantities almhwah, the importance of Syria's geographical location as a crossroads of three continents and study and analysis of syrian exports and how to increase it by increasing the rate of revenue growth and the declining ratio of production requirements and increase the number of vessels that are received by the port, in the development of logistics in Syria.
The study aimed at evaluating the success of Tartos Port Container Terminal investing by the private sector in promoting its operational and financial performance. The study analyzed the operational and financial indicators for the Container Terminal before and after the entrance of the private sector. The period of the study started from 2004 until 2010 by considering 2007 an intermediate year. The study used the appropriate statistical methods such as t- test and Mann Whitney Test for comparing the performance of the terminal before and after the entrance of the private sector. The study found significant improvement of operational and liquidity indicators and significant decrease of leverage and profitability indicators, and some notable recommendations were the necessary of doing some reforms on the public sector companies which can increase the flexibility and the speed of the decisions making process, and the possibility of relying on privatization and public private partnership to fix some public sector enterprises that became unable to compete with the private sector.
The disposal of solid waste is one of the most important contemporary environmental issues. Increasing population and what has been associated with the change in the patterns and lifestyles and increased consumption led to increasing the amount of pr oduced waste and its quality, especially in cities; the estimated amount of solid waste produced daily in the city of Latakia was 840 tons. Thus, there is an urgent need to follow the techniques in the management of solid waste in all stages to maintain human health and protect the environment from pollution. This study as a whole aims to estimate the amount and characteristics of solid waste, the methods used to collect and analyze the spatial distribution of the current waste collection containers in areas of the city of Latakia, better planning commensurate with its population and the amount of waste produced using GIS technology. To accomplish this, we have a comprehensive field survey to collect the waste containers in the study area where they were monitoring their locations and identifying characteristics; we relied on statistical analytical approach in the recruitment of data that have been obtained, and used the map to the city of Latakia Tags. And, through the program (ARC GIS 9.3) the data has been entered and processed, linked and analyzed using analysis tools attached to the program, exit maps and various forms that serve the study. The study concludes that the current number of containers is not enough when discharged per day, and that the spatial distribution is not commensurate with the amount of waste produced in areas of the city .
In the light of the circumstances in the contemporary world of privatization, this research aims to study the effect of the privatization on the technical efficiency of container terminal using Stochastic Frontier Analysis, the study has applied on t he most important Mediterranean container terminals. The results concluded that the technical efficiency rate was 76.17%. The full private ownership of container terminals does not reflect the high levels of technical efficiency. The full public ownership of container terminals also did not reflect the high levels of technical efficiency, but it is the best of the private sector. However, the technical efficiency of public container terminal can be improved with participation of the private sector, and advised partnership between the public sector and the private sector with rate of 38.5% according to the results of research.
Multi-modal transport is a new legal transport system that aims to develop and activate the international transport of goods, it has become an essential part of the global supply chain which is essentially based on safety and quick delivery of the pr oduct from producer to consumer through a combination of highly efficient operations and logistics services in various countries of the world. This paper deals with the subject of multi-modal transport and the possibility applied in Lattakia port as it is the first container port in Syria.
