Effects of Sewage Sludge Application on Dry Biomass and Wood Volume of Eucalyptus Camaldulensis Plantation in Fedio (Lattakia)

This study was carried out during 2013 – 2015 and aimed to assess the effects of applying dry sewage sludge on dry biomass production and wood volume of Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantation established on sandy soil in Fedio plantation-Lattakia at April - 2013. Four experimental treatments were compared at age 22 months: SS1 (sewage sludge 3 kg/tree), SS2 (sewage sludge 6 kg/tree), MF (mineral fertilizer), and C (no fertilizer applications). Aboveground dry biomass production and wood volume in the SS1 treatment were about 107.60 t/ ha and 121.13 m3/harespectively, MF treatment (87.52 t/ha, 96.98 m3/ha) and SS2 treatment (91.12 t/ha, 103.42 m3/ha)and higher than in the control treatment (43.89 t/ha, 51.32 m3/ha ).

The Effect of Applying Sewage Sludge on Biomass Production and Wood Volume of Eucalyptus camaldulensis

Generally, sewage sludge is dumped into sanitary landfills, even though its use in forest stands as a fertilizer and soil conditioner might be an interesting option. However, sewage sludge must be applied with care to avoid soil and water pollution. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of applying dry sewage sludge on wet biomass production and wood volume of short rotation Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantation established on sandy soil in Fedio plantation.

The role of some trees leaves in the detention of marine aerosols at the Syrian coast

In this study, the quantity of deposited particles on some trees leaves at Syrian coast has been determined; and the seasonal changes in the concentration of trace metals (Zn,Mn,Cd,Pb) at both sides corresponding to the land and sea have been identified.

Determination of some trace heavy metals in dust particles deposed on the leafs of some trees along Syrian coast

This study deals with the determination of the quantity of solid dust particles deposed on the leafs of some trees along Syrian coast and the concentration of some heavy metals in it (Zn, Fe, Pb, Cu, Ni, Cd, Co, Mn) .Some sites near to human and industrials activities , and others near to agriculture activities , and others relatively far from pollution sources has been selected. The results showed that the quantity of solid dust particles on leafs trees and concentration of heavy metals in it such as (Pb, Ni, Cd, Co) increasing near the industrials activities and dense traffic, and decreasing in the sites that relatively far from of pollution sources. However Cypress trees attach solid quantities more than Pride of china, following Rever red gum and Blue-leafed wattle and Oleander, and the Palm tree come in the last.
