Like other writers of the twentieth century, Conrad is constantly thinking about the themes of order and anarchy which are resulting from their societies. Joseph Conrad emerges as a liberal who is aware of the social problems which face the ordinary man.
The present study shows the influence of Conrad's
identification with "ships," on his gaining insights into femininity
and on representing female characters in his fiction. These ships are
interestingly referred to by Conrad in The Mirror of the S
ea as
"allegorical women".
