Although research about the use of collocations is growing, there seems
to be no single study, to the best of my knowledge, which addresses how
electronic dictionaries impact users’ collocational thresholds. This
empirical study has been carried o
ut to bridge this gap in the research
literature and assess the collocational competence of Arabic-speaking
learners of English. The main focus is on their ability to judge the
acceptability of verb-noun collocations using electronic dictionaries on
CD-ROMs which are claimed to be much more than an ‘ordinary’
reference work.
Modern educational and computer technology has greatly affected the
design of electronic dictionaries. Various types and sizes have been
produced ranging from hand-held devices to multimedia dictionaries on
CD-ROMs. Unfortunately, little literatur
e exists on their efficacy and the
way these are used; therefore, there is now a pressing need for uncovering
the way EFL learners use these tools.
This dictionary user profile, survey questionnaire, was constructed to
fulfill this need and unearth the electronic dictionary-using habits of Arab
EFL learners and underline the various facts about the names of the
electronic dictionaries they owned, the reasons when, where, why and
how dictionary users employed these dictionaries and whether there was
any particular information they used more often. Endeavour was made to
pinpoint any difficulties in using any category of information and reveal
participants’ look-up habits and attitudes towards dictionaries.
This research seeks to reopen an old and new file of so as to find
out the real reasons the disappearance of the art of drama in the Arab
region, despite the abundance of many of the objective circumstances
which should lead to the creation of dra
ma .
After presenting the views which have attempted to explain this
phenomenon, this research proceeds to put forward a new view which
the researcher thinks is worthy of attention .
New attributes of the reason for this disappearance, is the
feature of the man of this region , who does not often believe in
settling conflicts or tacking them to their utmost, but rather believes in
compromise as a solution .
Conflict is one of the fundamentals of drama without which it
cannot exist, And the man who innovates art , creates it in the form
of his image and example . But the man of this region does not believe
that conflict which if it continues can lead to a solution , therefore how
can he create an art which is basically founded upon conflict .
The Umayyad state has raised on a basic support represented by Arab discrimination
. In time the prospect of the Islamic call has expended . The Arab Islamic world parties
have expended to include Arabs and non Arabs of different races . the suppor
ters have
become as second center in the literary status and the social treatment on both . The
political parties have noticed that there is a type of a complaint of the supporter so they
attracted them to it . This discrimination has extended to include the Arabs themselves so
they sided with the tribe bloc and persecuted others . The conflict has been between Arabs
and non Arabs and between Arabs themselves Yemen and Al-Qaysiyah,This was one of
the reasons for the deterioration of the Umayyad state and its fall .
