This paper deals with solutions of the nonlinear Boltzmann equation for spatially uniform freely cooling inelastic Maxwell models for large times and for large velocities, and the nonuniform convergence to these limits. We demonstrate how the velocity distribution approaches in the scaling limit to a similarity solution with a power law tail for general classes of initial conditions and derive a transcendental equation from which the exponents in the tails can be calculated. Moreover on the basis of the available analytic and numerical results for inelastic hard spheres and inelastic Maxwell models we formulate a conjecture on the approach of the velocity distribution function to a scaling form.

In this paper, we propose a Boltzmann-type kinetic description of mass-varying interacting multi-agent systems. Our agents are characterised by a microscopic state, which changes due to their mutual interactions, and by a label, which identifies a gr oup to which they belong. Besides interacting within and across the groups, the agents may change label according to a state-dependent Markov-type jump process. We derive general kinetic equations for the joint interaction/label switch processes in each group. For prototypical birth/death dynamics, we characterise the transient and equilibrium kinetic distributions of the groups via a Fokker-Planck asymptotic analysis. Then we introduce and analyse a simple model for the contagion of infectious diseases, which takes advantage of the joint interaction/label switch processes to describe quarantine measures.

Fractional nonlinear differential equations present an interplay between two common and important effective descriptions used to simplify high dimensional or more complicated theories: nonlinearity and fractional derivatives. These effective descript ions thus appear commonly in physical and mathematical modeling. We present a new series method providing systematic controlled accuracy for solutions of fractional nonlinear differential equations. The method relies on spatially iterative use of power series expansions. Our approach permits an arbitrarily large radius of convergence and thus solves the typical divergence problem endemic to power series approaches. We apply our method to the fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation and its imaginary time rotation, the fractional nonlinear diffusion equation. For the fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation we find fractional generalizations of cnoidal waves of Jacobi elliptic functions as well as a fractional bright soliton. For the fractional nonlinear diffusion equation we find the combination of fractional and nonlinear effects results in a more strongly localized solution which nevertheless still exhibits power law tails, albeit at a much lower density.
We demonstrate the power of a recently-proposed approximation scheme for the non-perturbative renormalization group that gives access to correlation functions over their full momentum range. We solve numerically the leading-order flow equations obtai ned within this scheme, and compute the two-point functions of the O(N) theories at criticality, in two and three dimensions. Excellent results are obtained for both universal and non-universal quantities at modest numerical cost.
Multiple relaxation channels often arise in the dynamics of liquids where the momentum current associated to the particle-conservation law splits into distinct contributions. Examples are strongly confined liquids for which the currents in lateral an d longitudinal direction to the walls are very different, or fluids of nonspherical particles with distinct relaxation patterns for translational and rotational degrees of freedom. Here, we perform an asymptotic analysis of the slow structural relaxation close to kinetic arrest as described by mode-coupling theory (MCT) with several relaxation channels. Compared to standard MCT, the presence of multiple relaxation channels significantly changes the structure of the underlying equations of motion and leads to additional, non-trivial terms in the asymptotic solution. We show that the solution can be rescaled, and thus prove that the well-known $ beta $-scaling equation of MCT remains valid even in the presence of multiple relaxation channels. The asymptotic treatment is validated using a novel schematic model. We demonstrate that the numerical solution of this schematic model can indeed be described by the derived asymptotic scaling laws close to kinetic arrest. Additionally, clear traces of the existence of two distinct decay channels are found in the low-frequency susceptibility spectrum, suggesting that clear footprints of the additional relaxation channels can in principle be detected in simulations or experiments of confined or molecular liquids.
The solutions of the one-dimensional homogeneous nonlinear Boltzmann equation are studied in the QE-limit (Quasi-Elastic; infinitesimal dissipation) by a combination of analytical and numerical techniques. Their behavior at large velocities differs q ualitatively from that for higher dimensional systems. In our generic model, a dissipative fluid is maintained in a non-equilibrium steady state by a stochastic or deterministic driving force. The velocity distribution for stochastic driving is regular and for infinitesimal dissipation, has a stretched exponential tail, with an unusual stretching exponent $b_{QE} = 2b$, twice as large as the standard one for the corresponding $d$-dimensional system at finite dissipation. For deterministic driving the behavior is more subtle and displays singularities, such as multi-peaked velocity distribution functions. We classify the corresponding velocity distributions according to the nature and scaling behavior of such singularities.
