We discuss the rough surface effects on a two-dimensional chiral $k_x+ik_y$ superconductor. The atomic scale roughness at the surface is considered using the random $S$ matrix model. The roughness effects on the self-consistent order parameter, the surface mass current and the surface density of states are studied using the quasi-classical theory. We find that the surface mass current is suppressed by the surface roughness. The surface density of states shows a quite similar behavior to that of superfluid ${}^3$He B phase. When the surface is specular, the surface Andreev bound states form a band which fills the bulk energy gap $Delta_{rm bulk}$. When the surface becomes diffusive, there occurs a sharp upper edge of the surface bound states band and there opens a sub-gap between the edge and the bulk energy gap. We show that this sub-gap is induced by the repulsion between the surface bound states and the propagating Bogoliubov quasi-particles through the second order process of roughness.

Surface properties are examined in a chiral d-wave superconductor with hexagonal symmetry, whose one-body Hamiltonian possesses the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling identical to the one characterizing the topological nature of the Kane-Mele honeycomb in sulator. In the normal state spin-orbit coupling gives rise to spontaneous surface spin currents, whereas in the superconducting state there exist besides the spin currents also charge surface currents, due to the chiral pairing symmetry. Interestingly, the combination of these two currents results in a surface spin polarization, whose spatial dependence is markedly different on the zigzag and armchair surfaces. We discuss various potential candidate materials, such as SrPtAs, which may exhibit these surface properties.
We develop a self-consistent approach for calculating the local impedance at a rough surface of a chiral $p$-wave superconductor. Using the quasiclassical Eilenberger-Larkin-Ovchinnikov formalism, we numerically find the pair potential, pairing funct ions, and the surface density of states taking into account diffusive electronic scattering at the surface. The obtained solutions are then employed for studying the local complex conductivity and surface impedance in the broad range of microwave frequencies (ranging from subgap to above-gap values). We identify anomalous features of the surface impedance caused by generation of odd-frequency superconductivity at the surface. The results are compared with experimental data for Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ and provide a microscopic explanation of the phenomenological two-fluid model suggested earlier to explain anomalous features of the microwave response in this material.
Using the tight binding model and the non-equilibrium Green function method, we study Andreev reflection in graphene-superconductor junction, where graphene has two nonequal Dirac Cones split in energy and therefore time reversal symmetry is broken. Due to the anti-chiral edge states of the current graphene model, an incident electron travelling along the edges makes distinct contribution to Andreev reflections. In a two-terminal device, because Andreev retro-reflection is not allowed for just the anti-chiral edges, in this case the mutual scattering between edge and bulk states is necessary, which leads that the coefficient of Andreev retro-reflection is always symmetrical about the incident energy. In a four-terminal junction, however, the edges are parallel to the interface of superconductor and graphene, so at the interface an incident electron travelling along the edges can be retro-reflected as a hole into bulk modes, or specularly reflected as a hole into anti-chiral edge states again. It is noted that, the coefficient of specular Andreev reflection keeps symmetric as to the incident energy of electron which is consistent with the reported results before, however the coefficient of Andreev retro-reflection shows an unexpected asymmetrical behavior due to the presence of anti-chiral edge states. Our results present some new ideas to study the anti-chiral edge modes and Andreev reflection for a graphene model with the broken time reversal symmetry.
We study low-temperature transport through a Coulomb blockaded quantum dot (QD) contacted by a normal (N), and a superconducting (S) electrode. Within an effective cotunneling model the conduction electron self energy is calculated to leading order i n the cotunneling amplitudes and subsequently resummed to obtain the nonequilibrium T-matrix, from which we obtain the nonlinear cotunneling conductance. For even occupied dots the system can be conceived as an effective S/N-cotunnel junction with subgap transport mediated by Andreev reflections. The net spin of an odd occupied dot, however, leads to the formation of sub-gap resonances inside the superconducting gap which gives rise to a characteristic peak-dip structure in the differential conductance, as observed in recent experiments.
We use tunable laser based Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy to study the electronic structure of the multi-band superconductor, MgB2. These results form the base line for detailed studies of superconductivity in multi-band systems. We find t hat the magnitude of the superconducting gap on both sigma bands follows a BCS-like variation with temperature with Delta0 ~7 meV. The value of the gap is isotropic within experimental uncertainty and in agreement with pure a s-wave pairing symmetry. We also observe in-gap states confined to kF of the sigma band that occur at some locations of the sample surface. The energy of this excitation, ~3 meV, is inconsistent with scattering from the pi band.
