InGaAs Quantum Dots embedded in GaAs barriers, grown in inverted tetrahedral recesses of 7 {mu}m edge, have showed interesting characteristics in terms of uniformity and spectral narrowness of the emission. In this paper we present a study on the fine structure splitting (FSS). The investigation of about 40 single quantum dots revealed two main points: (1) the values of this parameter are very similar from dot to dot, proving again the uniformity of Pyramidal QD properties, (2) there is a little chance, in the sample investigated, to find a dot with natural zero splitting, but the values found (the mean being 13 {mu}eV) should always guarantee the capability of restoring the degeneracy with some corrective technique (e.g. application of a small magnetic field).

We present here the electronic structure and optical properties of InGaAs quantum wells with barrier doped with Manganese. We calculated the electronic states and optical emission within the envelope function and effective mass approximations using t he spin-density functional theory in the presence of an external magnetic field. We observe magneto-oscillations of the Landau levels at low-magnetic fields (B < 5 T) that are dominated by the magnetic interaction between holes spin and Mn spin, while at high magnetic fields the spin-polarization of the hole gas is the dominant effect. Our results also show that a gate voltage alter significantly the magneto-oscillations of the emission energy and may be an external control parameter for the magnetic properties of the system. Finally, we discuss the influence of the Landau Levels oscillations in the emission spectra and compare with available experimental.
We study optically driven Rabi rotations of a quantum dot exciton transition between 5 and 50 K, and for pulse-areas of up to $14pi$. In a high driving field regime, the decay of the Rabi rotations is nonmonotonic, and the period decreases with pulse -area and increases with temperature. By comparing the experiments to a weak-coupling model of the exciton-phonon interaction, we demonstrate that the observed renormalization of the Rabi frequency is induced by fluctuations in the bath of longitudinal acoustic phonons, an effect that is a phonon analogy of the Lamb-shift.
We report experimental evidence identifying acoustic phonons as the principal source of the excitation-induced-dephasing (EID) responsible for the intensity damping of quantum dot excitonic Rabi rotations. The rate of EID is extracted from temperatur e dependent Rabi rotation measurements of the ground-state excitonic transition, and is found to be in close quantitative agreement with an acoustic-phonon model.

We demonstrate that the exciton and biexciton emission energies as well as exciton fine structure splitting (FSS) in single (In,Ga)As/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) can be efficiently tuned using hydrostatic pressure in situ in an optical cryostat at up to 4.4 GPa. The maximum exciton emission energy shift was up to 380 meV, and the FSS was up to 180 $mu$eV. We successfully produced a biexciton antibinding-binding transition in QDs, which is the key experimental condition that generates color- and polarization-indistinguishable photon pairs from the cascade of biexciton emissions and that generates entangled photons via a time-reordering scheme. We perform atomistic pseudopotential calculations on realistic (In,Ga)As/GaAs QDs to understand the physical mechanism underlying the hydrostatic pressure-induced effects.
We report on stacked multiple quantum dots (QDs) formed inside inverted pyramidal recesses, which allow for the precise positioning of the QDs themselves. Specifically we fabricated double QDs with varying inter-dot distance and ensembles with more t han two nominally highly symmetric QDs. For each, the effect of the interaction between QDs is studied by characterizing a large number of QDs through photoluminescence spectroscopy. A clear red-shift of the emission energy is observed together with a change in the orientation of its polarization, suggesting an increasing interaction between the QDs. Finally we show how stacked QDs can help influencing the charging of the excitonic complexes.
