Three-dimensional trapping of neutral atoms in a combined gravito-magnetic potential is reported. Clouds of cold rubidium atoms in different hyperfine states of the ground level were trapped with a lifetime of 4.5 s. Confinement exclusively occurred as a combination of the static magnetic force and the gravitational force.
We investigate cooling mechanisms in magneto-optically and magnetically trapped erbium. We find efficient sub-Doppler cooling in our trap, which can persist even in large magnetic fields due to the near degeneracy of two Lande g factors. Furthermore,
We demonstrate coherent microwave control of the rotational, hyperfine and Zeeman states of ultracold CaF molecules, and the magnetic trapping of these molecules in a single, selectable quantum state. We trap about $5times 10^{3}$ molecules for 2 s a
We investigate simultaneous state-insensitive trapping of a mixture of two different atomic species, Caesium and Rubidium. The magic wavelengths of the Caesium and Rubidium atoms are different, $935.6$ nm and $789.9$ nm respectively, thus single-freq
Laser cooling on weak transitions is a useful technique for reaching ultracold temperatures in atoms with multiple valence electrons. However, for strongly magnetic atoms a conventional narrow-line magneto-optical trap (MOT) is destabilized by compet
Imidogen (NH) radicals are magnetically trapped and their Zeeman relaxation and energy transport collision cross sections with helium are measured. Continuous buffer-gas loading of the trap is direct from a room-temperature molecular beam. The Zeeman
