The Exa.TrkX project has applied geometric learning concepts such as metric learning and graph neural networks to HEP particle tracking. The Exa.TrkX tracking pipeline clusters detector measurements to form track candidates and filters them. The pipeline, originally developed using the TrackML dataset (a simulation of an LHC-like tracking detector), has been demonstrated on various detectors, including the DUNE LArTPC and the CMS High-Granularity Calorimeter. This paper documents new developments needed to study the physics and computing performance of the Exa.TrkX pipeline on the full TrackML dataset, a first step towards validating the pipeline using ATLAS and CMS data. The pipeline achieves tracking efficiency and purity similar to production tracking algorithms. Crucially for future HEP applications, the pipeline benefits significantly from GPU acceleration, and its computational requirements scale close to linearly with the number of particles in the event.

In this paper, we present the physics performance of the ESSnuSB experiment in the standard three flavor scenario using the updated neutrino flux calculated specifically for the ESSnuSB configuration and updated migration matrices for the far detecto r. Taking conservative systematic uncertainties corresponding to a normalization error of $5%$ for signal and $10%$ for background, we find that there is $10sigma$ $(13sigma)$ CP violation discovery sensitivity for the baseline option of 540 km (360 km) at $delta_{rm CP} = pm 90^circ$. The corresponding fraction of $delta_{rm CP}$ for which CP violation can be discovered at more than $5 sigma$ is $70%$. Regarding CP precision measurements, the $1sigma$ error associated with $delta_{rm CP} = 0^circ$ is around $5^circ$ and with $delta_{rm CP} = -90^circ$ is around $14^circ$ $(7^circ)$ for the baseline option of 540 km (360 km). For hierarchy sensitivity, one can have $3sigma$ sensitivity for 540 km baseline except $delta_{rm CP} = pm 90^circ$ and $5sigma$ sensitivity for 360 km baseline for all values of $delta_{rm CP}$. The octant of $theta_{23}$ can be determined at $3 sigma$ for the values of: $theta_{23} > 51^circ$ ($theta_{23} < 42^circ$ and $theta_{23} > 49^circ$) for baseline of 540 km (360 km). Regarding measurement precision of the atmospheric mixing parameters, the allowed values at $3 sigma$ are: $40^circ < theta_{23} < 52^circ$ ($42^circ < theta_{23} < 51.5^circ$) and $2.485 times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2 < Delta m^2_{31} < 2.545 times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ ($2.49 times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2 < Delta m^2_{31} < 2.54 times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$) for the baseline of 540 km (360 km).
A detailed study is presented of the expected performance of the ATLAS detector. The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the trigger. The physics potentia l for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series of notes based on simulations of the detector and physics processes, with particular emphasis given to the data expected from the first years of operation of the LHC at CERN.
A muon collider represents the ideal machine to reach very high center-of-mass energies and luminosities by colliding elementary particles. This is the result of the low level of beamstrahlung and synchrotron radiation compared to linear or circular electron-positron colliders. In contrast with other lepton machines, the design of a detector for a multi-TeV muon collider requires the knowledge of the interaction region due to the presence of a large amount of background induced by muon beam decays. The physics reaches can be properly evaluated only when the detector performance is determined. In this work, the background generated by muon beams of $750$ GeV is characterized and the performance of the tracking system and the calorimeter detector are illustrated. Solutions to minimize the effect of the beam-induced background are discussed and applied to obtain track and jet reconstruction performance. The $mu^+mu^-to H ubar{ u}to bbar b ubar{ u}$ process is fully simulated and reconstructed to demonstrate that physics measurements are possible in this harsh environment. The precision on Higgs boson coupling to $bbar b$ is evaluated for $sqrt{s}=1.5$, 3, and 10 TeV and compared to other proposed machines.
These reports present the results of the 2013 Community Summer Study of the APS Division of Particles and Fields (Snowmass 2013) on the future program of particle physics in the U.S. Chapter 9, on Computing, discusses the computing challenges for fut ure experiments in the Energy, Intensity, and Cosmic Frontiers, for accelerator science, and for particle theory, as well as structural issues in supporting the intense uses of computing required in all areas of particle physics.
This paper describes a scalable active learning pipeline prototype for large-scale brain mapping that leverages high performance computing power. It enables high-throughput evaluation of algorithm results, which, after human review, are used for iter ative machine learning model training. Image processing and machine learning are performed in a batch layer. Benchmark testing of image processing using pMATLAB shows that a 100$times$ increase in throughput (10,000%) can be achieved while total processing time only increases by 9% on Xeon-G6 CPUs and by 22% on Xeon-E5 CPUs, indicating robust scalability. The images and algorithm results are provided through a serving layer to a browser-based user interface for interactive review. This pipeline has the potential to greatly reduce the manual annotation burden and improve the overall performance of machine learning-based brain mapping.
