The interplay of nematicity and superconductivity has been observed in a wide variety of quantum materials. To explore this interplay, we consider a two-dimensional (2D) array of nematogens, local droplets with $Z_3$ nematicity, coupled to a network of Josephson junction wires. Using finite temperature classical Monte Carlo simulations, we elucidate the phase diagram of this model and show that the development of superconducting correlations and the directional delocalization of Cooper pairs can promote nematogen ordering, resulting in long-range nematic order. We obtain the transport properties of our model within an effective resistor network picture. We discuss these ideas in the context of the 2D electron gas at the (111) KTaO$_3$ interface and the doped topological insulators Nb$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and Cu$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Our work makes contact with Phil Andersons numerous contributions to broken symmetries driven by the saving of kinetic energy, including double exchange ferromagnetism and the interlayer tunneling theory of high $T_c$ superconductivity.

We present new x-ray and neutron scattering measurements of stripe order in La(1.875)Ba(0.125)CuO(4), along with low-field susceptibility, thermal conductivity, and specific heat data. We compare these with previously reported results for resistivity and thermopower. Temperature-dependent features indicating transitions (or crossovers) are correlated among the various experimental quantities. Taking into account recent spectroscopic studies, we argue that the most likely interpretation of the complete collection of results is that an unusual form of two-dimensional superconducting correlations appears together with the onset of spin-stripe order. Recent theoretical proposals for a sinusoidally-modulated superconducting state compatible with stripe order provide an intriguing explanation of our results and motivate further experimental tests. We also discuss evidence for one-dimensional pairing correlations that appear together with the charge order. With regard to the overall phenomenology, we consider the degree to which similar behavior may have been observed in other cuprates, and describe possible connections to various puzzling phenomena in cuprate superconductors.
In all Fe superconductors the maximal $T_c$ correlates with the average anion height above the Fe plane, i.e. with the geometry of the FeAs$_4$ or FeCh$_4$ (Ch = Te, Se, S) tetrahedron. By synthesizing FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ (0 $leq$ x $leq$ 1) single cry stal alloys and by performing a series of experiments we find that $T_c$ does scale with the average anion height for $x$ in the presence of nematic order and near FeS, whereas superconductivity changes for all other $x$ track local crystallographic disorder and disorder-related scattering. Our findings demonstrate the strong coupling between disorder and $T_c$ as $x$ is tuned beyond the nematic critical point (NCP) and provide evidence of a $T_c$ tuning mechanism related to local bond disorder.
We present a ^{115}In NMR study of the quasi two-dimensional heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn_5 believed to host a Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnkov (FFLO) state. In the vicinity of the upper critical field and with a magnetic field applied parallel to the ab-plane, the NMR spectrum exhibits a dramatic change below T*(H) which well coincides with the position of reported anomalies in specific heat and ultrasound velocity. We argue that our results provide the first microscopic evidence for the occurrence of a spatially modulated superconducting order parameter expected in a FFLO state. The NMR spectrum also implies an anomalous electronic structure of vortex cores.
By means of the magnetocaloric effect, we examine the nature of the superconducting-normal (S-N) transition of Sr2RuO4, a most promising candidate for a spin-triplet superconductor. We provide thermodynamic evidence that the S-N transition of this ox ide is of first order below approximately 0.8 K and only for magnetic field directions very close to the conducting plane, in clear contrast to the ordinary type-II superconductors exhibiting second-order S-N transitions. The entropy release across the transition at 0.2 K is 10% of the normal-state entropy. Our result urges an introduction of a new mechanism to break superconductivity by magnetic field.

We study the dynamics of the superconducting order parameter in the high-$T_c$ cuprate Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8-delta}$ by employing a novel time-resolved pump-probe Raman experiment. We find two different coupling mechanisms that contribute equally to the pair breaking peak. One coupling sets in very fast at 2ps and relaxes slow, while the other one is delayed and sets in roughly at 5ps and relaxes fast. A model that couples holes through phonons is able to reproduce one part of the condensate dynamics, thus, we argue that hole-spin interactions are of importance as well.
