Anomaly detection is a crucial and challenging subject that has been studied within diverse research areas. In this work, we explore the task of log anomaly detection (especially computer system logs and user behavior logs) by analyzing logs sequential information. We propose LAMA, a multi-head attention based sequential model to process log streams as template activity (event) sequences. A next event prediction task is applied to train the model for anomaly detection. Extensive empirical studies demonstrate that our new model outperforms existing log anomaly detection methods including statistical and deep learning methodologies, which validate the effectiveness of our proposed method in learning sequence patterns of log data.

This paper presents a novel vehicle motion forecasting method based on multi-head attention. It produces joint forecasts for all vehicles on a road scene as sequences of multi-modal probability density functions of their positions. Its architecture u ses multi-head attention to account for complete interactions between all vehicles, and long short-term memory layers for encoding and forecasting. It relies solely on vehicle position tracks, does not need maneuver definitions, and does not represent the scene with a spatial grid. This allows it to be more versatile than similar model while combining any forecasting capabilities, namely joint forecast with interactions, uncertainty estimation, and multi-modality. The resulting prediction likelihood outperforms state-of-the-art models on the same dataset.
Acoustic Scene Classification (ASC) is a challenging task, as a single scene may involve multiple events that contain complex sound patterns. For example, a cooking scene may contain several sound sources including silverware clinking, chopping, fryi ng, etc. What complicates ASC more is that classes of different activities could have overlapping sounds patterns (e.g. both cooking and dishwashing could have silverware clinking sound). In this paper, we propose a multi-head attention network to model the complex temporal input structures for ASC. The proposed network takes the audios time-frequency representation as input, and it leverages standard VGG plus LSTM layers to extract high-level feature representation. Further more, it applies multiple attention heads to summarize various patterns of sound events into fixed dimensional representation, for the purpose of final scene classification. The whole network is trained in an end-to-end fashion with back-propagation. Experimental results confirm that our model discovers meaningful sound patterns through the attention mechanism, without using explicit supervision in the alignment. We evaluated our proposed model using DCASE 2018 Task 5 dataset, and achieved competitive performance on par with previous winners results.
The state of the art in learning meaningful semantic representations of words is the Transformer model and its attention mechanisms. Simply put, the attention mechanisms learn to attend to specific parts of the input dispensing recurrence and convolu tions. While some of the learned attention heads have been found to play linguistically interpretable roles, they can be redundant or prone to errors. We propose a method to guide the attention heads towards roles identified in prior work as important. We do this by defining role-specific masks to constrain the heads to attend to specific parts of the input, such that different heads are designed to play different roles. Experiments on text classification and machine translation using 7 different datasets show that our method outperforms competitive attention-based, CNN, and RNN baselines.
Co-training, extended from self-training, is one of the frameworks for semi-supervised learning. Without natural split of features, single-view co-training works at the cost of training extra classifiers, where the algorithm should be delicately desi gned to prevent individual classifiers from collapsing into each other. To remove these obstacles which deter the adoption of single-view co-training, we present a simple and efficient algorithm Multi-Head Co-Training. By integrating base learners into a multi-head structure, the model is in a minimal amount of extra parameters. Every classification head in the unified model interacts with its peers through a Weak and Strong Augmentation strategy, in which the diversity is naturally brought by the strong data augmentation. Therefore, the proposed method facilitates single-view co-training by 1). promoting diversity implicitly and 2). only requiring a small extra computational overhead. The effectiveness of Multi-Head Co-Training is demonstrated in an empirical study on standard semi-supervised learning benchmarks.
Transformer model has been widely used on machine translation tasks and obtained state-of-the-art results. In this paper, we report an interesting phenomenon in its encoder-decoder multi-head attention: different attention heads of the final decoder layer align to different word translation candidates. We empirically verify this discovery and propose a method to generate diverse translations by manipulating heads. Furthermore, we make use of these diverse translations with the back-translation technique for better data augmentation. Experiment results show that our method generates diverse translations without severe drop in translation quality. Experiments also show that back-translation with these diverse translations could bring significant improvement on performance on translation tasks. An auxiliary experiment of conversation response generation task proves the effect of diversity as well.
