Hyperuniform states of matter are characterized by anomalous suppression of long-wavelength density fluctuations. While most of interesting cases of disordered hyperuniformity are provided by complex many-body systems like liquids or amorphous solids, classical spin chains with certain long-range interactions have been shown to demonstrate the same phenomenon. It is well-known that the transverse field Ising model shows a quantum phase transition (QPT) at zero temperature. Under the quantum effects of a transverse magnetic field, classical hyperuniform spin chains are expected to lose their hyperuniformity. High-precision simulations of these cases are complicated because of the presence of highly nontrivial long-range interactions. We perform extensive analysis of these systems using density matrix renormalization group to study the possibilities of phase transitions and the mechanism by which they lose hyperuniformity. We discover first-order QPTs in the hyperuniform spin chains. An interesting feature of the phase transitions in these disordered hyperuniform spin chains is that, depending on the parameter values, the presence of transverse magnetic field may remarkably lead to increase in the order of the ground state as measured by the $tau$ order metric, even if hyperuniformity is lost. Therefore, it would be possible to design materials to target specific novel quantum behaviors in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Our numerical investigations suggest that these spin chains can show no more than two QPTs. We further analyze the long-range interacting spin chains via the Jordan-Wigner mapping, showing that under the pairwise interacting approximation and a mean-field treatment, there can be at most two QPTs. Based on these numerical and theoretical explorations, we conjecture that these spin chains can show a maximum of two QPTs at zero temperature.

We study the quasiparticle excitation and quench dynamics of the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model with power-law ($1/r^{alpha}$) interactions. We find that long-range interactions give rise to a confining potential, which couples pairs of domain walls (kinks) into bound quasiparticles, analogous to mesonic bound states in high-energy physics. We show that these quasiparticles have signatures in the dynamics of order parameters following a global quench and the Fourier spectrum of these order parameters can be expolited as a direct probe of the masses of the confined quasiparticles. We introduce a two-kink model to qualitatively explain the phenomenon of long-range-interaction induced confinement, and to quantitatively predict the masses of the bound quasiparticles. Furthermore, we illustrate that these quasiparticle states can lead to slow thermalization of one-point observables for certain initial states. Our work is readily applicable to current trapped-ion experiments.
Isotropic XX models of one-dimensional spin-1/2 chains are investigated with the aim to elucidate the formal structure and the physical properties that allow these systems to act as channels for long-distance, high-fidelity quantum teleportation. We introduce two types of models: I) open, dimerized XX chains, and II) open XX chains with small end bonds. For both models we obtain the exact expressions for the end-to-end correlations and the scaling of the energy gap with the length of the chain. We determine the end-to-end concurrence and show that model I) supports true long-distance entanglement at zero temperature, while model II) supports {it ``quasi long-distance} entanglement that slowly falls off with the size of the chain. Due to the different scalings of the gaps, respectively exponential for model I) and algebraic in model II), we demonstrate that the latter allows for efficient qubit teleportation with high fidelity in sufficiently long chains even at moderately low temperatures.
The existence or absence of non-analytic cusps in the Loschmidt-echo return rate is traditionally employed to distinguish between a regular dynamical phase (regular cusps) and a trivial phase (no cusps) in quantum spin chains after a global quench. H owever, numerical evidence in a recent study [J. C. Halimeh and V. Zauner-Stauber, arXiv:1610.02019] suggests that instead of the trivial phase a distinct anomalous dynamical phase characterized by a novel type of non-analytic cusps occurs in the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model when interactions are sufficiently long-range. Using an analytic semiclassical approach and exact diagonalization, we show that this anomalous phase also arises in the fully-connected case of infinite-range interactions, and we discuss its defining signature. Our results show that the transition from the regular to the anomalous dynamical phase coincides with Z2-symmetry breaking in the infinite-time limit, thereby showing a connection between two different concepts of dynamical criticality. Our work further expands the dynamical phase diagram of long-range interacting quantum spin chains, and can be tested experimentally in ion-trap setups and ultracold atoms in optical cavities, where interactions are inherently long-range.

Harnessing power-law interactions ($1/r^alpha$) in a large variety of physical systems are increasing. We study the dynamics of chiral spin chains as a possible multi-directional quantum channel. This arises from the nonlinear character of the disper sion with complex quantum interference effects. Using complementary numerically and analytical techniques, we engineer models to transfer quantum states. We illustrate our approach using the long-range XXZ model modulated by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. With exploring non-equilibrium dynamics after a local quantum quench, we identify at fully nonlocal regime (which breaks generalized Lieb-Robinson bounds ) the interplay of interaction range $alpha$ and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya coupling gives rise to spatially asymmetric spin excitations transport. This could be interesting for quantum information protocols to transfer quantum states and maybe testable with current trapped-ion experiments. We further explore the growth of block entanglement entropy in these systems and the order of magnitude reduction distinguished. A possible effective interaction induces by DM coupling and integrability breaking in these systems is discussed.
We investigate the performance of superconducting flux qubits for the adiabatic quantum simulation of long distance entanglement (LDE), namely a finite ground-state entanglement between the end spins of a quantum spin chain with open boundary conditi ons. As such, LDE can be considered an elementary precursor of edge modes and topological order. We discuss two possible implementations which simulate open chains with uniform bulk and weak end bonds, either with Ising or with XX nearest-neighbor interactions. In both cases we discuss a suitable protocol for the adiabatic preparation of the ground state in the physical regimes featuring LDE. In the first case the adiabatic manipulation and the Ising interactions are realized using dc currents, while in the second case microwaves fields are used to control the smoothness of the transformation and to realize the effective XX interactions. We demonstrate the adiabatic preparation of the end-to-end entanglement in chains of four qubits with realistic parameters and on a relatively fast time scale.
