Recently, the niobium (Nb)-doped topological insulator Bi_2Se_3, in which the finite magnetic moments of the Nb atoms are intercalated in the van der Waals gap between the Bi_2Se_3 layers, has been shown to exhibit both superconductivity with T_c = 3 K and topological surface states. Here we report on muon spin rotation experiments probing the temperature-dependent of effective magnetic penetration depth Lambda_eff(T) in the layered topological superconductor candidate Nb_0.25Bi_2Se_3. The exponential temperature dependence of lambda_(eff)^(-2)(T) at low temperatures suggests a fully gapped superconducting state in the bulk with the superconducting transition temperature T_c = 2.9 K and the gap to T_c ratio 2Delta/k_BT_c = 3.95(19). We also revealed that the ratio T_c/lambda_(eff)^(-2) is comparable to those of unconventional superconductors, which hints at an unconventional pairing mechanism. Furthermore, time reversal symmetry breaking was excluded in the superconducting state with sensitive zero-field muSR experiments. We hope the present results will stimulate theoretical investigations to obtain a microscopic understanding of the relation between superconductivity and the topologically non-trivial electronic structure of Nb_0.25Bi_2Se_3.

We investigate the superconducting gap function of topological superconductor PbTaSe$_2$. Temperature, magnetic field, and three-dimensional (3D) field-angle dependences of the specific heat prove that the superconductivity of PbTaSe$_2$ is fully-gap ped, with two isotropic $s$-wave gaps. The pair-breaking effect is probed by systematically increasing non-magnetic disorders through H$^+$-irradiations. The superconducting transition temperature, $T_{rm{c}}$, is found to be robust against disorders, which suggests that the pairing should be sign-preserved rather than sign-reversed.
The boundary of a fractionalized topological phase can be gapped by condensing a proper set of bosonic quasiparticles. Interestingly, in the presence of a global symmetry, such a boundary can have different symmetry transformation properties. Here we present an explicit example of this kind, in the double semion state with time reversal symmetry. We find two distinct cases where the semionic excitations on the boundary can transform either as time reversal singlets or as time reversal (Kramers) doublets, depending on the coherent phase factor of the Bose condensate. The existence of these two possibilities are demonstrated using both field theory argument and exactly solvable lattice models. Furthermore, we study the domain walls between these two types of gapped boundaries and find that the application of time reversal symmetry tunnels a semion between them.

We report an investigation of the superconducting properties of the hexagonal noncentrosymmetric compound LaPdIn. Electrical resistivity, specific heat and ac susceptibility measurements demonstrate the presence of bulk superconductivity below $T_c$ = 1.6 K. The specific heat, together with the penetration depth measured using transverse-field muon spin rotation and the tunnel diode oscillator based method, are well described by single gap $s$-wave superconductivity, with a gap magnitude of 1.8$k_BT_c$. From zero-field muon spin relaxation results no evidence is found for the spontaneous emergence of magnetic fields in the superconducting state, indicating that time-reversal symmetry is preserved. Band structure calculations reveal that there is a relatively weak effect of antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling on the electronic bands near the Fermi level, which is consistent with there being negligible singlet-triplet mixing due to broken inversion symmetry. On the other hand, isostructural LuPdIn and LaPtIn do not exhibit superconductivity down to 0.4 K, which may be due to these systems having a smaller density of states at the Fermi level.
Time-reversal-invariant topological superconductor (TRITOPS) wires host Majorana Kramers pairs that have been predicted to mediate a fractional Josephson effect with $4pi$ periodicity in the superconducting phase difference. We explore the TRITOPS fr actional Josephson effect in the presence of time-dependent `local mixing perturbations that instantaneously preserve time-reversal symmetry. Specifically, we show that just as such couplings render braiding of Majorana Kramers pairs non-universal, the Josephson current becomes either aperiodic or $2pi$-periodic (depending on conditions that we quantify) unless the phase difference is swept sufficiently quickly. We further analyze topological superconductors with $mathcal{T}^2 = +1$ time-reversal symmetry and reveal a rich interplay between interactions and local mixing that can be experimentally probed in nanowire arrays.

In general, magnetism and superconductivity are antagonistic to each other. However, there are several families of superconductors, in which superconductivity may coexist with magnetism, and only a few examples are known, when superconductivity itsel f induces spontaneous magnetism. The most known compounds are Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ and some noncentrosymmetric superconductors. Here, we report the finding of a narrow dome of a novel $s+is$ superconducting (SC) phase with broken time-reversal symmetry (BTRS) inside the broad $s$-wave SC region of the centrosymmetric multiband superconductor Ba$_{rm 1-x}$K$_{rm x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($0.7 lesssim x lesssim 0.85$). We observe spontaneous magnetic fields inside this dome using the muon spin relaxation ($mu$SR) technique. Furthermore, our detailed specific heat study reveals that the BTRS dome appears very close to a change in the topology of the Fermi surface (Lifshitz transition). With this, we experimentally demonstrate the emergence of a novel quantum state due to topological changes of the electronic system.
