A new U-based compound of the U2Rh2Pb, a new compound of the U2T2X series was prepared in a single-crystal form. Its structure was determined as belonging to the tetragonal Mo2FeB2 structure type with the shortest U-U spacing along the c. U2Rh2Pb undergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at TN of 20 K and exhibits an enhanced Sommerfeld coefficient 150 mJ/molK2. In contrast to the two rhodium analogues U2Rh2In and U2Rh2Sn, the easy-magnetization direction is the c with rather low value of the critical field 4.3 T of the metamagnetic transition of a spin-flip type. The observed dependences of TN and Hc on temperature and magnetic field have been used for constructing a magnetic phase diagram. The experimental observations are mostly supported by first-principles calculations.

A study by specific heat of a polycrystalline sample of the low-dimensional magnetic system Y$_2$BaCuO$_5$ is presented. Magnetic fields up to 14 T are applied and permit to extract the ($T$,$H$) phase diagram. Below $mu_0H^*simeq2$ T, the Neel tempe rature, associated with a three-dimensional antiferromagnetic long-range ordering, is constant and equals $T_N=15.6$ K. Above $H^*$, $T_N$ increases linearly with $H$ and a field-induced increase of the entropy at $T_N$ is related to the presence of an isosbestic point at $T_Xsimeq20$ K, where all the specific heat curves cross. A comparison is made between Y$_2$BaCuO$_5$ and the quasi-two-dimensional magnetic systems BaNi$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{8}$, Sr$_2$CuO$_2$Cl$_2$, and Pr$_2$CuO$_4$, for which very similar phase diagrams have been reported. An effective field-induced magnetic anisotropy is proposed to explain these phase diagrams.
Low-temperature, high-field (H[-110] <= 7.5 T), neutron diffraction experiments on single-crystal Ce0.70Pr0.30B6 are reported. Two successive incommensurate phases are found to exist in zero field. The appearance, for H >= 4.6 T at T = 2 K, of an ant iferromagnetic structure, k{AF} = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2), most likely due to an underlying antiferroquadrupolar order, is discussed in connection with recent x-ray diffraction experiments.
A single-crystal sample of the frustrated quasi one-dimensional quantum magnet Cs$_{2}$Cu$_{2}$Mo$_{3}$O$_{12}$ is investigated by magnetic and thermodynamic measurements.A combination of specific heat and magnetic torque measurements maps out the en tire $H$-$T$ phase diagram for three orientations.Remarkably, a new phase emerges below the saturation field, irrespective of the crystal orientation. It is suggested that the presaturation phase represents spin-nematic order or other multi-magnon condensate. The phase diagrams within the long-range ordered dome are qualitatively different for each geometry. In particular, multiple transitions are identified in the field along the chain direction.
We investigate the magnetism of a previously unexplored distorted spin-1/2 kagome model consisting of three symmetry-inequivalent nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic Heisenberg couplings and uncover a rich ground state phase diagram even at the classi cal level. Using analytical arguments and numerical techniques we identify a collinear $vec{Q} = 0$ magnetic phase, two unusual non-collinear coplanar $vec{Q} = (1/3,1/3)$ phases and a classical spin liquid phase with a degenerate manifold of non-coplanar ground states, resembling the jammed spin liquid phase found in the context of a bond-disordered kagome antiferromagnet. We further show with density functional theory calculations that the recently synthesized Y-kapellasite $text{Y}_{text{3}}text{Cu}_{text{9}}text{(OH)}_{text{19}}text{Cl}_{text{8}}$ is a realization of this model and predict its ground state to lie in the region of $vec{Q} = (1/3,1/3)$ order, which remains stable even after inclusion of quantum fluctuation effects within variational Monte Carlo and pseudofermion functional renormalization group. Interestingly, the excitation spectrum of Y-kapellasite lies between that of an underlying triangular lattice of hexagons and a kagome lattice of trimers. The presented model opens a new direction in the study of kagome antiferromagnets.
The properties of LiHoF$_4$ are believed to be well described by a long-range dipolar Ising model. We go beyond mean-field theory and calculate the phase diagram of the Ising model in a transverse field using a quantum Monte Carlo method. The relevan t Ising degrees of freedom are obtained using a non-perturbative projection onto the low-lying crystal field eigenstates. We explicitly take the domain structure into account, and the strength of the near-neighbor exchange interaction is obtained as a fitting parameter. The on-site hyperfine interaction is approximately taken into account through a renormalization of the transverse applied magnetic field. Finally, we propose a spectroscopy experiment to precisely measure the most important parameter controlling the location of the phase boundary.
