By measuring the temperature dependence of the resistance, we investigated the effect of Cu doping on superconductivity (SC) in Cu-doped TaSe$_3$ in which the charge density wave (CDW) transition is induced by Cu doping. We observed an emergence of a region where the SC transition temperature ($T_mathrm{C}$) decreased in samples with higher Cu concentrations and found that the region tended to expand with increasing Cu concentration. In addition, the temperature dependence of the upper critical field ($H_mathrm{C2}$) of Cu-doped TaSe$_3$ was found to differ from that of pure TaSe$_3$. Based on these experimental results and the fact that the SC of TaSe$_3$ is filamentary, we conclude that SC is suppressed locally by Cu doping and competes with the CDW in Cu-doped TaSe$_3$. The resistance anomaly due to the CDW transition was extremely small and the size of the anomaly was enhanced with increasing Cu concentration but the temperature at which the anomaly appeared hardly changed. This result of the anomaly and the local suppression of SC imply that the induced CDWs are short-range order in the vicinity of Cu atoms. We also discuss the effect of the pinning of CDWs on the relationship between SC and short-range order CDWs.

We report the interplay between charge-density-wave (CDW) and superconductivity of 1$T$-Fe$_{x}$Ta$_{1-x}$S$_{2}$ ($0leq x leq 0.05$) single crystals. The CDW order is gradually suppressed by Fe-doping, accompanied by the disappearance of pseudogap/M ott-gap as shown by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The superconducting state develops at low temperatures within the CDW state for the samples with the moderate doping levels. The superconductivity strongly depends on $x$ within a narrow range, and the maximum superconducting transition temperature is 2.8 K as $x=0.02$. We propose that the induced superconductivity and CDW phases are separated in real space. For high doping level ($x>0.04$), the Anderson localization (AL) state appears, resulting in a large increase of resistivity. We present a complete electronic phase diagram of 1$T$-Fe$_{x}$Ta$_{1-x}$S$_{2}$ system that shows a dome-like $T_{c}(x)$.
The charge density wave in the high-temperature superconductor YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-x}$ (YBCO) is now known to have two different ordering tendencies differentiated by their $c$-axis correlations. These correspond to ferro- (F-CDW) and antiferro- (AF-C DW) couplings between CDW in neighbouring CuO$_2$ bilayers. This discovery has prompted a number of fundamental questions. For example, how does superconductivity adjust to two competing orders and are either of these orders responsible for the electronic reconstruction? Here we use high-energy x-ray diffraction to study YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.67}$ as a function of magnetic field and temperature. We show that regions of the sample with F-CDW correlations suppress superconductivity more strongly than those with AF-CDW correlations. This implies that an inhomogeneous superconducting state exists, in which some regions show a weak or fragile form of superconductivity. By comparison of F-CDW and AF-CDW correlation lengths, it is furthermore concluded that F-CDW ordering is sufficiently long-range to modify the electronic structure. Our study thus suggests that F-CDW correlations have an important impact on superconducting and normal state properties of underdoped YBCO.
Here we report a systematic investigation on the evolution of the structural and physical properties, including the charge density wave and superconductivity of the polycrystalline CuIr2Te4-xIx. X-ray diffraction results indicate that both of a and c lattice parameters increase linearly. The resistivity measurements indicate that the charge density wave is destabilized with slight x but reappears when x is large than 0.9. Meanwhile, the superconducting transition temperature enhances as x raises and reaches a maximum value of around 2.95 K for the optimal composition CuIr2Te3.9I0.1 followed by a slight decrease with higher iodine doping content. The specific heat jump for the optimal composition CuIr2Te3.9I0.1 is approximately 1.46, which is close to the Bardeen Cooper Schrieffer value which is 1.43, indicating it is a bulk superconductor. The results of thermodynamic heat capacity measurements under different magnetic fields, magnetization and magneto-transport measurements further suggest that CuIr2Te4-xIx bulks are type II superconductors. Finally, an electronic phase diagram for this CuIr2Te4-xIx system has been constructed. The present study provides a suitable material platform for further investigation of the interplay of the CDW and superconductivity.
From systematic analysis of the high pulsed magnetic field resistance data of La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_{4}$ thin films, we extract an experimental phase diagram for several doping values ranging from the very underdoped to the very overdoped regimes. Our analysis highlights a competition between charge density waves and superconductivity which is ubiquitous between $x=0.08$ and $x=0.19$ and produces the previously observed double step transition. When suppressed by a strong magnetic field, superconductivity is resilient for two specific doping ranges centered around respectively $xapprox 0.09$ and $xapprox 0.19$ and the characteristic temperature for the onset of the competing charge density wave phase is found to vanish above $x = 0.19$. At $x=1/8$ the two phases are found to coexist exactly at zero magnetic field.
Hole-doped cuprate superconductors show a ubiquitous tendency towards charge order. Although onset of superconductivity is known to suppress charge order, there has not so far been a decisive demonstration of the reverse process, namely, the effect o f charge order on superconductivity. To gain such information, we report here the dependence of the critical temperature $T_{mathrm{c}}$ of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.67}$ on in-plane uniaxial stress up to 2 GPa. At a compression of about 1 GPa along the $a$ axis, 3D-correlated charge density wave (3D CDW) order appears. We find that $T_{mathrm{c}}$ decreases steeply as the applied stress crosses 1 GPa, showing that the appearance of 3D CDW order strongly suppresses superconductivity. Through the elastocaloric effect we resolve the heat capacity anomaly at $T_{mathrm{c}}$, and find that it does not change drastically as the 3D CDW onsets, which shows that the condensation energy of the 3D CDW is considerably less than that of the superconductivity.
