Using the time-evolving block decimation, we study the spin transport through spin-1/2 and spin-1 XXZ chains subjected to an external magnetic field and contacted to noninteracting fermionic leads. For generic system-lead couplings, the spin conductance exhibits several resonances as a function of the magnetic-field strength. In the spin-1/2 but not the spin-1 case, the coupling to the leads can be fine-tuned to reach a conducting fixed point, where the peak structure is washed out and the spin conductance is large throughout the gapless Luttinger-liquid phase. For the Haldane phase of the spin-1 chain, we analyse how the spin transport is affected by spin-1/2 edge states, and argue that two-impurity Kondo physics is realised.

We study a XXZ spin-chain in a gapless Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) phase with time dependent anisotropy of spin exchange interactions. To begin we focus on a linear ramp of $J_z$, starting at XX point and slowly increasing towards the anti-ferrom agnetic Heisenberg point. Although the problem of a linear ramp in the TLL has been recently under intense scrutiny in a perturbative emph{g-ology} framework, an aspect that has been overlooked so far is the role of the Galilean invariance breaking. We find that, although the differential equation that needs to be solved to find time evolution of the system is substantially more complicated, in some cases exact analytic solutions can be given. We obtain them for the linear ramp in the limit of small $J_z$ as well as $J_zrightarrow 1$, and for such protocols that are tailored to keep the Galilean invariance breaking term constant for every $J_z$. We point out the features of dynamics during the quench that stays unaltered, and those that need to be taken with care when Galilean invariance breaking is present. We are able to deduce that it is the shape of the propagating front that is affected in the most pronounced way.

The thermodynamic properties of the XXZ spin chain with integrable open boundary conditions at the gaped region (i.e., the anisotropic parameter $eta$ being a real number) are investigated. It is shown that the contribution of the inhomogeneous term i n the $T-Q$ relation of the ground state and elementary excited state can be neglected when the size of the system $N$ tends to infinity. The surface energy and elementary excitations induced by the unparallel boundary magnetic fields are obtained.

We explore the fidelity susceptibility and the quantum coherence along with the entanglement entropy in the ground-state of one-dimensional spin-1 XXZ chains with the rhombic single-ion anisotropy. By using the techniques of density matrix renormaliz ation group, effects of the rhombic single-ion anisotropy on a few information theoretical measures are investigated, such as the fidelity susceptibility, the quantum coherence and the entanglement entropy. Their relations with the quantum phase transitions are also analyzed. The phase transitions from the Y-N{e}el phase to the Large-$E_x$ or the Haldane phase can be well characterized by the fidelity susceptibility. The second-order derivative of the ground-state energy indicates all the transitions are of second order. We also find that the quantum coherence, the entanglement entropy, the Schmidt gap can be used to detect the critical points of quantum phase transitions. Conclusions drawn from these quantum information observables agree well with each other. Finally we provide a ground-state phase diagram as functions of the exchange anisotropy $Delta$ and the rhombic single-ion anisotropy $E$.

The magnetic and thermodynamic properties of spin-1/2 Heisenberg diamond chains are investigated in three different cases: (a) J1, J2, J3>0 (frustrated); (b) J1, J3<0, J2>0 (frustrated); and (c) J1, J2>0, J3<0 (non-frustrated). The density matrix ren ormalization group (DMRG) technique is invoked to study the properties of the system in the ground state, while the transfer matrix renormalization group (TMRG) technique is applied to explore the thermodynamic properties. The local magnetic moments, spin correlation functions, and static structure factors are discussed in the ground state for the three cases. It is shown that the static structure factor S(q) shows peaks at wavevectors $q=api /3$ (a=0,1,2,3,4,5) for different couplings in a zero magnetic field, which, however in the magnetic fields where the magnetization plateau with m=1/6 pertains, exhibits the peaks only at q=0, $2pi /3$ and $4pi /3$, which are found to be couplings-independent. The DMRG results of the zero-field static structure factor can be nicely fitted by a linear superposition of six modes, where two fitting equations are proposed. It is observed that the six modes are closely related to the low-lying excitations of the system. At finite temperatures, the double-peak structures of the susceptibility and specific heat against temperature are obtained, where the peak positions and heights are found to depend on the competition of the couplings. It is also uncovered that the XXZ anisotropy of F and AF couplings leads the system of case (c) to display quite different behaviors. In addition, the experimental data of the susceptibility, specific heat and magnetization for the compound Cu$_{3}$(CO$_{3}$)$_{2}$(OH)$_{2}$ are fairly compared with our TMRG results.
We study states with spontaneous spin current, emerging in frustrated antiferromagnetic spin-$S$ chains subject to a strong external magnetic field. As a numerical tool, we use a non-Abelian symmetry realization of the density matrix renormalization group. The field dependence of the order parameter and the critical exponents are presented for zigzag chains with S=1/2, 1, 3/2, and 2.
