We introduce a new fingerprint that allows distinguishing between liquid-like and solid-like atomic environments. This fingerprint is based on an approximate expression for the entropy projected on individual atoms. When combined with a local enthalpy, this fingerprint acquires an even finer resolution and it is capable of discriminating between different crystal structures.
We analyze the nature of the structural order established in liquid TIP4P water in the framework provided by the multi-particle correlation expansion of the statistical entropy. Different regimes are mapped onto the phase diagram of the model upon re
A Potts model and the Replica Exchange Wang-Landau algorithm are used to construct an energy landscape for a crystalline solid containing surfaces and grain boundaries. The energy landscape is applied to an equation of motion from the steepest-entrop
Spin glasses are a highly complex magnetic state of matter, intricately linked to spin frustration and structural disorder. They exhibit no long-range order and exude aging phenomena, distinguishing them from quantum spin liquids. We report a new typ
Entropy is a fundamental thermodynamic quantity that is a measure of the accessible microstates available to a system, with the stability of a system determined by the magnitude of the total entropy of the system. This is valid across truly mind bogg
We show that the concept of topological order, introduced to describe ordered quantum systems which cannot be classified by broken symmetries, also applies to classical systems. Starting from a specific example, we show how to use pure state density
