Based on observations performed with the Pulkovo normal astrograph in 2008-2015 and data from sky surveys (DSS, 2MASS, SDSS DR12, WISE), we have investigated the motions of 1308 stars with proper motions larger than 300 mas/yr down to magnitude 17. The main idea of our search for binary stars based on this material is reduced to comparing the quasi-mean (POSS2-POSS1; an epoch difference of $approx$50 yr) and quasi-instantaneous (2MASS, SDSS, WISE, Pulkovo; an epoch difference of $approx$10 yr) proper motions. If the difference is statistically significant compared to the proper motion errors, then the object may be considered as a {Delta}{mu}-binary candidate. One hundred and twenty one stars from among those included in the observational program satisfy this requirement. Additional confirmations of binarity for a number of stars have been obtained by comparing the calculated proper motions with the data from several programs of stellar trigonometric parallax determinations and by analyzing the asymmetry of stellar images on sky-survey CCD frames. Analysis of the highly accurate SDSS photometric data for four stars (J0656+3827, J0838+3940, J1229+5332, J2330+4639) allows us to reach a conclusion about the probability that these {Delta}{mu} binaries are white dwarf + M dwarf pairs.

A new all-sky catalog of stars with proper motions pm>0.15/yr is presented. The catalog is largely a product of the SUPERBLINK survey, a data-mining initiative in which the entire Digitized Sky Surveys are searched for moving stellar sources. Finding s from earlier proper motions surveys are also incorporated. The new all-sky catalog supersedes the great historic proper motion catalogs assembled by W. J. Luyten (LHS, NLTT), and provides a virtually complete (>98%) census of high proper motion stars down to magnitude R=19.
We present the SLoWPoKES-II catalog of low-mass visual binaries identified from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey by matching photometric distances. The candidate pairs are vetted by comparing the stellar density at their respective Galactic positions to Monte Carlo realizations of a simulated Milky Way. In this way, we are able to identify large numbers of bona fide wide binaries without the need of proper motions. 105,537 visual binaries with angular separations of $sim$1-20, are identified, each with a probability of chance alignment of $lesssim$5%. This is the largest catalog of bona fide wide binaries to date, and it contains a diversity of systems---in mass, mass ratios, binary separations, metallicity, and evolutionary states---that should facilitate follow-up studies to characterize the properties of M dwarfs and white dwarfs. There is a subtle but definitive suggestion of multiple populations in the physical separation distribution, supporting earlier findings. We suggest that wide binaries are comprised of multiple populations, most likely representing different formation modes. There are 141 M7 or later wide binary candidates, representing a 7-fold increase in the number currently known. These binaries are too wide to have been formed via the ejection mechanism. Finally, we find that ~6% of spectroscopically confirmed M dwarfs are not included in the SDSS STAR catalog; they are misclassified as extended sources due to the presence of a nearby or partially resolved companion. The SLoWPoKES-II catalog is publicly available to the entire community on the world wide web via the Filtergraph data visualization portal.
The infrared source known as Orion n was detected in 1980 with observations made with the 3.8-m United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. About two decades later, sensitive observations made with the Very Large Array revealed the presence of a mJy double ra dio source apparently coincident in position with the infrared source n. The radio source was assumed to be the counterpart of the infrared source. However, over the years it has been concluded that the radio source shows large proper motions to the south while the infrared source n is stationary. Here we reanalyze the proper motions of the radio source adding both older and newer VLA observations than previously used. We confirm the proper motions of the radio source that at present no longer coincides positionally with the infrared source. The solution to this problem is, most probably, that the infrared source n and the radio source are not the same object: the infrared source is a stationary object in the region while the radio counterpart is moving as a result of the explosion that took place in this region some 500 years ago and that expelled large amounts of molecular gas as well as several compact sources. Considering the paper where it was first reported, we refer to this double radio source as Orion MR. In addition, we use these new observations to fully confirm the large proper motions of the sources IRc23 and Zapata 11. Together with sources BN, I, Orion MR, and x, there are at least six compact sources that recede from a point in common in Orion BN/KL. However, IRc23 is peculiar in that its ejection age appears to be only $sim$300 years. The relatively large number of sources rules out as a possible mechanism the classic three-body scenario since then only two escaping bodies are expected: a tight binary plus the third star involved in the encounter.

We measure proper motions with the Hubble Space Telescope for 16 extreme radial velocity stars, mostly unbound B stars in the Milky Way halo. Twelve of these stars have proper motions statistically consistent with zero, and thus have radial trajector ies statistically consistent with a Galactic center hypervelocity star origin. The trajectory of HE 0437-5439 is consistent with both Milky Way and Large Magellanic Cloud origins. A Galactic center origin is excluded at 3-sigma confidence for two of the lowest radial velocity stars in our sample, however. These two stars are probable disk runaways and provide evidence for ~500 km/s ejections from the disk. We also measure a significant proper motion for the unbound sdO star US 708. Its 1,000 km/s motion is in some tension with proposed supernova ejection models, but can be explained if US 708 was ejected from the stellar halo. In the future, we expect Gaia will better constrain the origin of these remarkable unbound stars.
We present measurements of positions and relative proper motions in the 30 Doradus region of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We detail the construction of a single-epoch astrometric reference frame, based on specially-designed observations obtained with the two main imaging instruments ACS/WFC and WFC3/UVIS onboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Internal comparisons indicate a sub milli-arc-second (mas) precision in the positions and the presence of semi-periodic systematics with a mean amplitude of ~0.8 mas. We combined these observations with numerous archival images taken with WFPC2 and spanning 17 years. The precision of the resulting proper motions for well-measured stars around the massive cluster R 136 can be as good as ~20 microarcsec/yr, although the true accuracy of proper motions is generally lower due to the residual systematic errors. The observed proper-motion dispersion for our highest-quality measurements is ~0.1 mas/yr. Our catalog of positions and proper motions contains 86,590 stars down to V~25 and over a total area of ~70 square arcmin. We examined the proper motions of 105 relatively bright stars and identified a total of 6 candidate runaway stars. We are able to tentatively confirm the runaway status of star VFTS 285, consistent with the findings from line-of-sight velocities, and to show that this star has likely been ejected from R 136. This study demonstrates that with HST it is now possible to reliably measure proper motions of individual stars in the nearest dwarf galaxies such as the LMC.
