We report selective injection of both spin-up and spin-down single electrons into a quantum dot (QD) from spin-polarized non-equilibrium quantum Hall edge channels (ECs) generated by selective transmission of spin-resolved ECs using a surface gate placed at a distance from the QD. We change the spin polarization of non-equilibrium ECs by changing the bias voltages applied to different source Ohmic contacts. The efficiency of spin-up electron injection reaches 0.5, which is approximately 0.2 higher than that induced by spin-dependent tunnel coupling between QD and ECs. On the other hand, the efficiency of spin-down electron injection reaches 0.4. In addition, we rectify the underestimation of the efficiency of spin filtering for equilibrium ECs by numerically subtracting the contribution of the excited states in the QD. The obtained spin-filtering efficiency is higher than that evaluated from the raw experimental data and increases with magnetic field as expected with the increase in the spatial separation between ECs.

We investigate parametric pumping of a spin-polarized current through a nearly-closed quantum dot in a perpendicular magnetic field. Pumping is achieved by tuning the tunnel couplings to the left and right lead - thereby operating the quantum dot as a turnstile - and changing either the magnetic field or a gate-voltage. We analyze the quantum dynamics of a pumping cycle and the limiting time scales for operating the quantum dot turnstile as a pure spin pump. The proposed device can be used as a fully controllable double-sided and bipolar spin filter and to inject spins on demand.
Electron transport properties in a parallel double-quantum-dot structure with three-terminals are theoretically studied. By introducing a local Rashba spin-orbit coupling, we find that an incident electron from one terminal can select a specific term inal to depart from the quantum dots according to its spin state. As a result, spin polarization and spin separation can be simultaneously realized in this structure. And spin polarizations in different terminals can be inverted by tuning the structure parameters. The underlying quantum interference that gives rise to such a result is analyzed in the language of Feynman paths for the electron transmission.
Conductance of the edge modes as well as conductance across the co-propagating edge modes around the u = 4/3, 5/3 and 2 quantum Hall states are measured by individually exciting the modes. Temperature dependent equilibration rates of the outer unity conductance edge mode are presented for different filling fractions. We find that the equilibration rate of the outer unity conductance mode at u = 2 is higher and more temperature sensitive compared to the mode at fractional filling 5/3 and 4/3. At lowest temperature, equilibration length of the outer unity conductance mode tends to saturate with lowering filling fraction u by increasing magnetic field B. We speculate this saturating nature of equilibration length is arising from an interplay of Coulomb correlation and spin orthogonality.
We investigate non-equilibrium transport in the absence of spin-flip energy relaxation in a few-electron quantum dot artificial atom. Novel non-equilibrium tunneling processes involving high-spin states which cannot be excited from the ground state b ecause of spin-blockade, and other processes involving more than two charge states are observed. These processes cannot be explained by orthodox Coulomb blockade theory. The absence of effective spin relaxation induces considerable fluctuation of the spin, charge, and total energy of the quantum dot. Although these features are revealed clearly by pulse excitation measurements, they are also observed in conventional dc current characteristics of quantum dots.

We analyze the equilibrium frequency-dependent spin current noise and spin conductance through a quantum dot in the local moment regime. Spin current correlations behave markedly differently from charge correlations. Equilibrium spin correlations are characterized by two universal scaling functions in the absence of an external field: one of them is related to charge correlations, while the other one describes cross-spin correlations. We characterize these functions using a combination of perturbative and non-perturbative methods. We find that at low temperatures spin cross-correlations are suppressed at frequencies below the Kondo scale, $T_K$, and a dynamical spin accumulation resonance is found at the Kondo energy, $omega sim T_K$. At higher temperatures, $T>T_K$, surprising low-frequency anomalies related to overall spin conservation appear in the spin noise and spin conductance, and the Korringa rate is shown to play a distinguished role. The transient spin current response also displays universal and singular properties.
