Experimental measurements clearly reveal the presence of bulk superconductivity in the CsPbxBi4-xTe6 (0.3=<x=<1.0) materials, i.e. the first member of the thermoelectric series of Cs[PbmBi3Te5+m], these materials have the layered orthorhombic structure containing infinite anionic [PbBi3Te6]- slabs separated with Cs+ cations. Temperature dependences of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat have consistently demonstrated that the superconducting transition in CsPb0.3Bi3.7Te6 occurs at Tc=3.1K, with a superconducting volume fraction close to 100% at 1.8 K. Structural study using aberration-corrected STEM/TEM reveals a rich variety of microstructural phenomena in correlation with the Pb-ordering and chemical inhomogeneity. The superconducting material CsPb0.3Bi3.7Te6 with the highest Tc shows a clear ordered structure with a modulation wave vector of q=a*/2+ c*/1.35 on the a-c plane. Our study evidently demonstrates that superconductivity deriving upon doping of narrow-gap semiconductor is a viable approach for exploration of novel superconductors.

We report the synthesis and physical property characterization of PrFe1-xCoxAsO with x = 0.0 to 1.0. The studied samples are synthesized by solid state reaction route via vacuum encapsulation method. The pristine compound PrFeAsO does not show superc onductivity, but rather exhibits a metallic step like transition due to spin density wave ordering of Fe moments below 150 K, followed by another upward step due to anomalous ordering of Pr moments at 12 K. Both the Fe-SDW and Pr-TN temperatures decrease monotonically with Co substitution at Fe site. Superconductivity appears in a narrow range of x from 0.07 to 0.25 with maximum Tc at 11.12 K for x = 0.15. Samples, with x = 0.25 exhibit metallic behavior right from 300 K down to 2 K, without any Fe-SDW or Pr-TN steps in resistivity. In fact, though Fe-SDW decreases monotonically, the Pr-TN is disappeared even with x = 0.02. The magneto transport measurements below 14 Tesla on superconducting polycrystalline Co doped PrFeAsO lead to extrapolated values of the upper critical fields [Hc2(0)] of up to 60 Tesla.

We have studied the structural and superconducting properties of tetragonal FeSe under pressures up to 26GPa using synchrotron radiation and diamond anvil cells. The bulk modulus of the tetragonal phase is 28.5(3)GPa, much smaller than the rest of Fe based superconductors. At 12GPa we observe a phase transition from the tetragonal to an orthorhombic symmetry. The high pressure orthorhombic phase has a higher Tc reaching 34K at 22GPa.
We report the synthesis, crystal structure, superconductivity and physical property characterizations of the ternary equiatomic compound ScRuSi. Polycrystalline samples of ScRuSi were prepared by an arc-melting method. The as-prepared samples were id entified as the orthorhombic Co2P-type o-ScRuSi by the powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Electrical resistivity measurement shows o-ScRuSi to be a metal which superconducts below a Tc of 3.1 K, and the upper critical field {mu}0Hc2(0) is estimated to be 0.87 T. The magnetization and specific heat measurements confirm the bulk type-II superconductivity in o-ScRuSi, with the specific heat jump within the BCS weak coupling limit. o-ScRuSi is the first Co2P-type superconductor containing scandium. After annealing at 1273 K for a week, o-ScRuSi transforms into the hexagonal Fe2P-type h-ScRuSi, and the latter is a Pauli-paramagnetic metal with no superconductivity observed above 1.8 K.

We measure the magnetic penetration depth $Deltalambda(T)$ for NdO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$BiS$_{2}$ ($x$ = 0.3 and 0.5) using the tunnel diode oscillator technique. The $Deltalambda(T)$ shows an upturn in the low-temperature limit which is attributed to the p aramagnetism of Nd ions. After subtracting the paramagnetic contributions, the penetration depth $Deltalambda(T)$ follows exponential-type temperature dependence at $Tll T_c$. Both $Deltalambda(T)$ and the corresponding superfluid density $rho_s(T)$ can be described by the BCS model with an energy gap of $Delta(0)$ $approx$ 2.0 $k_BT_c$ for both $x$ = 0.3 and 0.5, suggesting strong-coupling BCS superconductivity in the presence of localized moments for NdO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$BiS$_{2}$.
We have carried out detailed magnetic and transport studies of the new Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2-xSex (x = 0.5, 1) superconductors derived by doping Se in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2. Se-doping produces several effects: it suppresses semiconducting like behavior observed in the undoped Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2, ferromagnetic ordering temperature, TFM, decreases considerably from 7.5 K (in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2) to 3.5 K and superconducting transition temperature, Tc, gets enhanced slightly to 2.9 - 3.3 K. Thus in these Se-doped materials, TFM is just marginally higher than Tc. Magnetization studies provide an evidence of bulk superconductivity in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2-xSex. Quite remarkably, as compared with the effective paramagnetic Ce-moment (~ 2.2 muB), the ferromagnetically ordered Ce-moment in the superconducting state is rather small (~ 0.1 muB). To the best of our knowledge, the title compounds are the first Ce-based superconducting itinerant ferromagnetic materials (Tc < TFM). We stress that Ce-4f electrons are responsible for both superconductivity and ferromagnetism just as U-5f electrons are in UCoGe. Furthermore, a novel feature of these materials is a dual hysteresis loop corresponding to both the ferromagnetism and the coexisting superconductivity. Such features of Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2-xSex put these materials apart from the well known U-containing superconducting ferromagnets reported so far.
