Uniform semiclassical approximations for the number and kinetic-energy densities are derived for many non-interacting fermions in one-dimensional potentials with two turning points. The resulting simple, closed-form expressions contain the leading corrections to Thomas-Fermi theory, involve neither sums nor derivatives, are spatially uniform approximations, and are exceedingly accurate.

We study the threshold corrections for inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and their all-order resummation. Using recent results for the QCD form factor, related anomalous dimensions and Mellin moments of DIS structure functions at four loops w e derive the complete soft and collinear contributions to the DIS Wilson coefficients at four loops. For a general $SU(n_c)$ gauge group the results are exact in the large-$n_c$ approximation and for QCD with $n_c=3$ we present precise approximations. We extend the threshold resummation exponent $G^N$ in Mellin-$N$ space to the fifth logarithmic (N$^4$LL) order collecting the terms $alpha_{rm s}^{,3} (alpha_{rm s} ln N)^n$ to all orders in the strong coupling constant $alpha_{rm s}$. We study the numerical effect of the N$^4$LL corrections using both the fully exponentiated form and the expansion of the coefficient function in towers of logarithms. As a byproduct, we derive a numerical result for the complete pole structure of the QCD form factor in the parameter of dimensional regularization $varepsilon$ at four loops.

A characterization of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy of type C (CKP) in terms of the KP tau-function is given. Namely, we prove that the CKP hierarchy can be identified with the restriction of odd times flows of the KP hierarchy on the locus of turning points of the second flow. The notion of CKP tau-function is clarified and connected with the KP tau function. Algebraic-geometrical solutions and in particular elliptic solutions are discussed in detail. The new identity for theta-functions of curves with holomorphic involution having fixed points is obtained.
We investigate the fermionic quasiparticle branch of superfluid Fermi gases in the BCS-BEC crossover and calculate the quasiparticle lifetime and energy shift due to its coupling with the collective mode. The only close-to-resonance process that low- energy quasiparticles can undergo at zero temperature is the emission of a bosonic excitation from the phononic branch. Close to the minimum of the branch we find that the quasiparticles remain undamped, allowing us to compute corrections to experimentally relevant quantities such as the energy gap, location of the minimum, effective mass, and Landau critical velocity.
We describe the impact of the full one-loop EW terms of O(alpha_s alpha_EM^3) entering the electron-positron into three-jet cross-section from sqrt{s}=M_Z to TeV scale energies. We include both factorisable and non-factorisable virtual corrections, p hoton bremsstrahlung but not the real emission of W and Z bosons. Their importance for the measurement of alpha_S from jet rates and shape variables is explained qualitatively and illustrated quantitatively.

After 10 years of steadily increasing the experimental precision at LEP/SLC, there is a strong demand on an update of existing programs for fermion pair production. We present a rederivation of the O(alpha) Bremsstrahlung corrections to e+e- --> f+f- for the semi-analytic program ZFITTER. We focus on observables like total cross section and forward-backward asymmetry in the leptonic case with combined cuts on acollinearity angle, acceptance angle, and minimal energy of the fermions. The outcome of our analysis is a shift of the predictions by ZFITTER at LEP 1 energies off-resonance of a few per mil while at the Z resonance numerical changes can be neglected. Thus we obtain for cross sections and asymmetries at LEP 1 a level of agreement with other programs of better than per mil, like for the kinematically simpler s cut option. A preliminary analysis of ZFITTER, TOPAZ0, and other codes at LEP 2 energies showing deviations of several per cent with acollinearity cuts enforce a future examination of higher order effects with different cuts. The predictions by LEP/SLC data, however, are not affected within the experimental errors.
