Recently, plasmons in graphene have been observed experimentally using scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy. In this paper, we develop a simplified analytical approach to describe the behavior in triangular samples. Replacing Coulomb interaction by a short-range one reduces the problem to a Helmholtz equation, amenable to analytical treatment. We demonstrate that even with our simplifications, the system still exhibits the key features seen in the experiment.

Recently developed plasmonic nanostructures are able to generate intense and localized magnetic hot spots in a large spectral range from the terahertz to the visible. However, a direct measurement of the magnetic field at the hot spot has not been pe rformed yet, due to the absence of magnetic field detectors that work at those high frequencies and that fit the hot-spot area. We propose to place a graphene ribbon in the hot spot of a plasmonic nanostructure driven by a laser beam, such that a current is generated due to both the magnetic field at the hot spot and the electric field of the laser. We demonstrate that a nonlinear Hall voltage, which can be measured by standard electrical means, builds up across the ribbon, making it possible to directly probe the magnetic field at the hot spot.
We discuss plasmons of biased twisted bilayer graphene when the Fermi level lies inside the gap. The collective excitations are a network of chiral edge plasmons (CEP) entirely composed of excitations in the topological electronic edge states (EES) t hat appear at the AB-BA interfaces. The CEP form an hexagonal network with an unique energy scale $epsilon_p=frac{e^2}{epsilon_0epsilon t_0}$ with $t_0$ the moire lattice constant and $epsilon$ the dielectric constant. From the dielectric matrix we obtain the plasmon spectra that has two main characteristics: (i) a diverging density of states at zero energy, and (ii) the presence of a plasmonic Dirac cone at $hbaromegasimepsilon_p/2$ with sound velocity $v_D=0.0075c$, which is formed by zigzag and armchair current oscillations. A network model reveals that the antisymmetry of the plasmon bands implies that CEP scatter at the hexagon vertices maximally in the deflected chiral outgoing directions, with a current ratio of 4/9 into each of the deflected directions and 1/9 into the forward one. We show that scanning near-field microscopy should be able to observe the predicted plasmonic Dirac cone and its broken symmetry phases.
The unique optical and electronic properties of graphene allow one to realize active optical devices. While several types of graphene-based photonic modulators have already been demonstrated, the potential of combining the versatility of graphene wit h subwavelength field confinement of plasmonic/metallic structures is not fully realized. Here we report fabrication and study of hybrid graphene-plasmonic modulators. We consider several types of modulators and identify the most promising one for light modulation at telecom and near-infrared. Our proof-of-concept results pave the way towards on-chip realization of efficient graphene-based active plasmonic waveguide devices for optical communications.

We show that a graphene sheet perforated with micro- or nano-size antidots have prominent absorption resonances in the microwave and terahertz regions. These resonances correspond to surface plasmons of a continuous sheet perturbed by a lattice. They are excited in different diffraction orders, in contrast to cavity surface plasmon modes existing in disconnected graphene structures. The resonant absorption by the antidot array can essentially exceed the absorption by a continuous graphene sheet, even for high antidot diameter-to-period aspect ratios. Surface plasmon-enhanced absorption and suppressed transmission is more efficient for higher relaxation times of the charge carriers.

The charge susceptibility of twisted bilayer graphene is investigated in the Dirac cone, respectively random-phase approximation. For small enough twist angles $thetalesssim 2^circ$ we find weakly Landau damped interband plasmons, i.~e., collective e xcitonic modes which exist in the undoped material, with an almost constant energy dispersion. In this regime, the loss function can be described as a Fano resonance and we argue that these excitations arise from the interaction of quasi-localised states with the incident light field. These predictions can be tested by nano-infrared imaging and possible applications include a perfect lens without the need of left-handed materials.
