In this paper we report a new method for determining the critical threshold of the Freedericksz transition driven by an electric field. It is based on the measurement of the amplitude of the molecule fluctuations as a function of the voltage difference applied to a planar nematic cell. The precise measurement of the director fluctuations of the liquid crystal is made possible by the use of a very precise and sensitive polarization interferometer. The great advantage of the method is that it does not depend on complex fits as it is usually done in literature.
Weak gravitational lensing flexions are a kind of weak lensing distortion which are defined as the spin 1 and spin 3 combinations of the third order derivatives of gravitational lensing potential. Since the shear has spin 2 combination of the second
We report experimental and numerical evidences that the dynamics of the director of a liquid crystal driven by an electric field close to the critical point of the Freedericksz Transition(FT) is not described by a Landau-Ginzburg (LG) equation as it
The metal-poor damped Lyman alpha (DLA) system at z = 3.04984 in the QSO SDSSJ1419+0829 has near-ideal properties for an accurate determination of the primordial abundance of deuterium, (D/H)_p. We have analysed a high-quality spectrum of this object
In this paper, a Freedericksz-like positional transition is found for a spherical micro-droplet suspended in a nematic liquid crystal cell in the presence of an external electric field. Based on the numerical calculation of elastic energy using Green
The compounds FeMnAsxP1-x are very promising as far as commercial applications of the magnetocaloric effect are concerned. However, the theoretical literature on magnetocaloric materials still adopts simple molecular-field models in the description o
