We present new 21-cm neutral hydrogen (HI) observations of spiral galaxies for the 2MASS Tully Fisher (2MTF) survey. Using the 64-m Parkes radio telescope multibeam system we obtain 152 high signal-to-noise HI spectra from which we extract 148 high-accuracy (< 5% error) velocity widths and derive reliable rotation velocities. The observed sample consists of 303 southern (delta < -40deg) galaxies selected from the MASS Redshift Survey (2MRS) with K_s <11.25 mag, cz < 10,000 km/s and axis ratio b/a < 0.5. The HI observations reported in this paper will be combined with new HI spectra from the Green Bank and Arecibo telescopes, together producing the most uniform Tully-Fisher survey ever constructed (in terms of sky coverage). In particular, due to its near infrared selection, 2MTF will be significantly more complete at low Galactic latitude (|b|<15deg) and will provide a more reliable map of peculiar velocities in the local universe.
Dark matter interactions with massless or very light Standard Model particles, as photons or neutrinos, may lead to a suppression of the matter power spectrum at small scales and of the number of low mass haloes. Bounds on the dark matter scattering
As part of our programme to map the large-scale distribution of galaxies behind the southern Milky Way, we observed 314 optically-selected, partially-obscured galaxies in the Zone of Avoidance (ZOA) in the Crux and Great Attractor (GA) regions. The o
Observations of the redshifted 21-cm signal (in absorption or emission) allow us to peek into the epoch of dark ages and the onset of reionization. These data can provide a novel way to learn about the nature of dark matter, in particular about the f
We present the results of Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) observations to detect H{sc i} in absorption towards the cores of a sample of radio galaxies. From observations of a sample of 16 sources, we detect H{sc i} in absorption towards the co
The prospect of detecting the first galaxies by observing their impact on the intergalactic medium as they reionized it during the first billion years leads us to ask whether such indirect observations are capable of diagnosing which types of galaxie
