Investigations of photoluminescence (PL) in the magnetic field of quantum structures based on the ZnSe quantum well with asymmetrical ZnBeMnSe and ZnBeSe barriers reveal that the introduction of Be into semimagnetic ZnMnSe causes a decrease of the exchange integrals for conductive and valence bands as well as the forming of a complex based on Mn, degeneration of an energy level of which with the energy levels of the V band of ZnBeMnSe or ZnSe results in spin-flip electron transitions.

We present an absorption study of the neutral and positively charged exciton (trion) under the influence of a femtosecond, circularly polarized, resonant pump pulse. Three populations are involved: free holes, excitons, and trions, all exhibiting tra nsient spin polarization. In particular, a polarization of the hole gas is created by the formation of trions. The evolution of these populations is studied, including the spin flip and trion formation processes. The contributions of several mechanisms to intensity changes are evaluated, including phase space filling and spin-dependent screening. We propose a new explanation of the oscillator strength stealing phenomena observed in p-doped quantum wells, based on the screening of neutral excitons by charge carriers. We have also found that binding heavy holes into charged excitons excludes them from the interaction with the rest of the system, so that oscillator strength stealing is partially blocked
We report a study of magnetic dynamics in multiferroic hexagonal manganite HoMnO3 by far-infrared spectroscopy. Low-temperature magnetic excitation spectrum of HoMnO3 consists of magnetic-dipole transitions of Ho ions within the crystal-field split J =8 manifold and of the triangular antiferromagnetic resonance of Mn ions. We determine the effective spin Hamiltonian for the Ho ion ground state. The magnetic-field splitting of the Mn antiferromagnetic resonance allows us to measure the magnetic exchange coupling between the rare-earth and Mn ions.
The dynamics of spin-lattice relaxation of the Mn-ions in (Zn,Mn)Se-based diluted-magnetic-semiconductor quantum wells is studied by time-resolved photoluminescence. The spin-lattice relaxation time varies by five orders of magnitude from 10-3 down t o 10-8 s, when the Mn content increases from 0.4 up to 11%. Free carriers play an important role in this dynamics. Hot carriers with excess kinetic energy contribute to heating of the Mn system, while cooling of the Mn system occurs in the presence of cold background carriers provided by modulation doping. In a Zn0.89Mn0.11Se quantum well structure, where the spin-lattice relaxation process is considerably shorter than the characteristic lifetime of nonequilibrium phonons, also the phonon dynamics and its contribution to heating of the Mn system are investigated.
Spin-magnetophonon level splitting in a quantum well made of a semimagnetic wide gap semiconductor is considered. The semimagnetic semiconductors are characterized by a large effective $g$ factor. The resonance conditions $hbaromega_{rm LO}=mu_BgB$ f or the spin flip between two Zeeman levels due to interaction with longitudinal optical phonons can be achieved sweeping magnetic field $B$. This condition is studied in quantum wells. It is shown that it leads to a level splitting that is dependent on the electron-phonon coupling strength as well as on the spin-orbit interaction in this structure. We treat in detail the Rashba model for the spin-orbit interaction assuming that the quantum well lacks inversion symmetry and briefly discuss other models. The resonant transmission and reflection of light by the well is suggested as a suitable experimental probe of the level splitting.
We present here the electronic structure and optical properties of InGaAs quantum wells with barrier doped with Manganese. We calculated the electronic states and optical emission within the envelope function and effective mass approximations using t he spin-density functional theory in the presence of an external magnetic field. We observe magneto-oscillations of the Landau levels at low-magnetic fields (B < 5 T) that are dominated by the magnetic interaction between holes spin and Mn spin, while at high magnetic fields the spin-polarization of the hole gas is the dominant effect. Our results also show that a gate voltage alter significantly the magneto-oscillations of the emission energy and may be an external control parameter for the magnetic properties of the system. Finally, we discuss the influence of the Landau Levels oscillations in the emission spectra and compare with available experimental.
