We present an experimental demonstration of the full control of the frequency correlations of entangled photon pairs. The joint spectrum of photon pairs is continuously varied from photons that exhibit anticorrelation in frequency to photons that exhibit correlation in frequency, passing through the case of uncorrelated photons. Highly entangled frequency-anticorrelated photon pairs were obtained even when an ultrafast laser was used as a pump. The different kinds of correlations are obtained without changing neither the wavelength, nor the nonlinear crystal.

Frequency encoding of quantum information together with fiber and integrated photonic technologies can significantly reduce the complexity and resource requirements for realizing all-photonic quantum networks. The key challenge for such frequency dom ain processing of single photons is to realize coherent and selective interactions between quantum optical fields of different frequencies over a range of bandwidths. Here, we report frequency-domain Hong-Ou-Mandel interference with spectrally distinct photons generated from a chip-based microresonator. We use four-wave mixing to implement an active frequency beam-splitter and achieve interference visibilities of $0.95 pm 0.02$. Our work establishes four-wave mixing as a tool for selective high-fidelity two-photon operations in the frequency domain which, combined with integrated single-photon sources, provides a building block for frequency-multiplexed photonic quantum networks.

Local ultrafast optical excitation of electron-hole pairs in disordered semiconductors provides the possibility to observe experimentally interaction-assisted propagation of correlated quantum particles in a disordered environment. In addition to the interaction driven delocalization known for the conventional single-band TIP-(two-interacting-particles)-problem the semiconductor model has a richer variety of physical parameters that give rise to new features in the temporal dynamics. These include different masses, correlated vs. anticorrelated disorder for the two particles, and dependence on spectral position of excitation pulse.
While two-photon absorption (TPA) and other forms of nonlinear interactions of molecules with isolated time-frequency-entangled photon pairs (EPP) have been predicted to display a variety of fascinating effects, their potential use in practical quant um-enhanced molecular spectroscopy requires close examination. This paper presents a detailed theoretical study of quantum-enhanced TPA by both photon-number correlations and spectral correlations, including an account of the deleterious effects of dispersion. While such correlations in EPP created by spontaneous parametric down conversion can increase the TPA rate significantly in the regime of extremely low optical flux, we find that for typical molecules in solution this regime corresponds to such low TPA event rates as to be unobservable in practice. Our results support the usefulness of EPP spectroscopy in atomic or other narrow-linewidth systems, while questioning the efficacy of such approaches for broadband systems including molecules in solution.
Fluctuation theorems are one of the pillars of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. Broadly speaking, they concern the statistical distribution of quantities such as heat, work or entropy production. Quantum experiments, however, usually can only assess t hese distributions indirectly. In this letter we provide an experimental demonstration of a quantum fluctuation theorem where the distribution of entropy production is obtained directly from the outcomes (clicks) of an optical experiment. The setup consists of entangled photon pairs, one of which is sent an interferometer emulating a finite temperature amplitude damping device. Blocking specific paths of the interferometer is tantamount to restricting the possible configurations of the reservoir. And by measuring its entangled pair, we can directly implement the two-point measurement scheme, thus avoiding the destructive nature of photo-detection.
Entangled photon pairs have been promised to deliver a substantial quantum advantage for two-photon absorption spectroscopy. However, recent work has challenged the previously reported magnitude of quantum enhancement in two-photon absorption. Here, we present an experimental comparison of sum-frequency generation and molecular absorption, each driven by isolated photon pairs. We establish an upper bound on the enhancement for entangled-two-photon absorption in Rhodamine-6G, which lies well below previously reported values.
