We investigate the origin of quantum geometric phases, gauge fields and forces beyond the adiabatic regime. In particular, we extend the notions of geometric magnetic and electric forces discovered in studies of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation to arbitrary quantum systems described by matrix valued quantum Hamiltonians. The results are illustrated by several physical relevant examples.

We study the gauge invariance of laser-matter interaction. The velocity gauge where the vector potential is expanded to the $n$-th order with respect to the spatial coordinate, and the length gauge where the electric and magnetic fields are expanded to the $n$-th and $(n-1)$-th orders, respectively, are mutually gauge-transformed, describing the physically equivalent situation. The latter includes up to the electric $2^{n+1}$-pole and magnetic $2^n$-pole interactions as well as two extra terms. The finding serves to develop consistent nonperturbative simulation methods beyond the electric dipole approximation.
It has recently been reported [Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 162502 (2016)] that (d, p) cross sections can be very sensitive to the n-p interactions used in the adiabatic treatment of deuteron breakup with nonlocal nucleon-target optical potentials. To under stand to what extent this sensitivity could originate in the inaccuracy of the adiabatic approximation we have developed a leading-order local- equivalent continuum-discretized coupled-channel model that accounts for non-adiabatic effects in the presence of nonlocality of nucleon optical potentials. We have applied our model to the astro- physically relevant reaction $^{26m}$Al$(d, p) ^{27}$Al using two different n-p potentials associated with the lowest and the highest n-p kinetic energy in the short-range region of their interaction, respectively. Our calculations reveal a significant reduction of the sensitivity to the high n-p momenta thus confirming that it is mostly associated with theoretical uncertainties of the adiabatic approximation itself. The non-adiabatic effects in the presence of nonlocality were found to be stronger than those in the case of the local optical potentials. These results argue for extending the analysis of the $(d, p)$ reactions, measured for spectroscopic studies, beyond the adiabatic approximation.

We study Euclidean Wilson loops at strong coupling using the AdS/CFT correspondence, where the problem is mapped to finding the area of minimal surfaces in Hyperbolic space. We use a formalism introduced recently by Kruczenski to perturbatively compu te the area corresponding to boundary contours which are deformations of the circle. Our perturbative expansion is carried to high orders compared with the wavy approximation and yields new analytic results. The regularized area is invariant under a one parameter family of continuous deformations of the boundary contour which are not related to the global symmetry of the problem. We show that this symmetry of the Wilson loops breaks at weak coupling at an a priori unexpected order in the perturbative expansion. We also study the corresponding Lax operator and algebraic curve for these solutions.
The derivation of Feynman rules for unparticles carrying standard model quantum numbers is discussed. In particular, this note demonstrates that an application of Mandelstams approach to constructing a gauge-invariant action reproduces for unparticle s the vertices one obtains through the usual minimal coupling scheme; other non-trivial requirements are satisfied as well. This approach is compared to an alternative method 0801.0892 that has recently been constructed by A. L. Licht.
