Deep learning-based single image deraining (SID) with unpaired information is of immense importance, as relying on paired synthetic data often limits their generality and scalability in real-world applications. However, we noticed that direct employ of unpaired adversarial learning and cycle-consistency constraints in the SID task is insufficient to learn the underlying relationship from rainy input to clean outputs, since the domain knowledge between rainy and rain-free images is asymmetrical. To address such limitation, we develop an effective unpaired SID method which explores mutual properties of the unpaired exemplars by a contrastive learning manner in a GAN framework, named as CDR-GAN. The proposed method mainly consists of two cooperative branches: Bidirectional Translation Branch (BTB) and Contrastive Guidance Branch (CGB). Specifically, BTB takes full advantage of the circulatory architecture of adversarial consistency to exploit latent feature distributions and guide transfer ability between two domains by equipping it with bidirectional mapping. Simultaneously, CGB implicitly constrains the embeddings of different exemplars in rain space by encouraging the similar feature distributions closer while pushing the dissimilar further away, in order to better help rain removal and image restoration. During training, we explore several loss functions to further constrain the proposed CDR-GAN. Extensive experiments show that our method performs favorably against existing unpaired deraining approaches on both synthetic and real-world datasets, even outperforms several fully-supervised or semi-supervised models.
High-resolution (HR) hyperspectral face image plays an important role in face related computer vision tasks under uncontrolled conditions, such as low-light environment and spoofing attacks. However, the dense spectral bands of hyperspectral face ima ges come at the cost of limited amount of photons reached a narrow spectral window on average, which greatly reduces the spatial resolution of hyperspectral face images. In this paper, we investigate how to adapt the deep learning techniques to hyperspectral face image super-resolution (HFSR), especially when the training samples are very limited. Benefiting from the amount of spectral bands, in which each band can be seen as an image, we present a spectral splitting and aggregation network (SSANet) for HFSR with limited training samples. In the shallow layers, we split the hyperspectral image into different spectral groups and take each of them as an individual training sample (in the sense that each group will be fed into the same network). Then, we gradually aggregate the neighbor bands at the deeper layers to exploit the spectral correlations. By this spectral splitting and aggregation strategy (SSAS), we can divide the original hyperspectral image into multiple samples to support the efficient training of the network and effectively exploit the spectral correlations among spectrum. To cope with the challenge of small training sample size (S3) problem, we propose to expand the training samples by a self-representation model and symmetry-induced augmentation. Experiments show that the introduced SSANet can well model the joint correlations of spatial and spectral information. By expanding the training samples, our proposed method can effectively alleviate the S3 problem. The comparison results demonstrate that our proposed method can outperform the state-of-the-arts.
3D LiDAR (light detection and ranging) semantic segmentation is important in scene understanding for many applications, such as auto-driving and robotics. For example, for autonomous cars equipped with RGB cameras and LiDAR, it is crucial to fuse com plementary information from different sensors for robust and accurate segmentation. Existing fusion-based methods, however, may not achieve promising performance due to the vast difference between the two modalities. In this work, we investigate a collaborative fusion scheme called perception-aware multi-sensor fusion (PMF) to exploit perceptual information from two modalities, namely, appearance information from RGB images and spatio-depth information from point clouds. To this end, we first project point clouds to the camera coordinates to provide spatio-depth information for RGB images. Then, we propose a two-stream network to extract features from the two modalities, separately, and fuse the features by effective residual-based fusion modules. Moreover, we propose additional perception-aware losses to measure the perceptual difference between the two modalities. Extensive experiments on two benchmark data sets show the superiority of our method. For example, on nuScenes, our PMF outperforms the state-of-the-art method by 0.8 in mIoU.
Single object tracking (SOT) is currently one of the most important tasks in computer vision. With the development of the deep network and the release for a series of large scale datasets for single object tracking, siamese networks have been propose d and perform better than most of the traditional methods. However, recent siamese networks get deeper and slower to obtain better performance. Most of these methods could only meet the needs of real-time object tracking in ideal environments. In order to achieve a better balance between efficiency and accuracy, we propose a simpler siamese network for single object tracking, which runs fast in poor hardware configurations while remaining an excellent accuracy. We use a more efficient regression method to compute the location of the tracked object in a shorter time without losing much precision. For improving the accuracy and speeding up the training progress, we introduce the Squeeze-and-excitation (SE) network into the feature extractor. In this paper, we compare the proposed method with some state-of-the-art trackers and analysis their performances. Using our method, a siamese network could be trained with shorter time and less data. The fast processing speed enables combining object tracking with object detection or other tasks in real time.
Most recent video super-resolution (SR) methods either adopt an iterative manner to deal with low-resolution (LR) frames from a temporally sliding window, or leverage the previously estimated SR output to help reconstruct the current frame recurrentl y. A few studies try to combine these two structures to form a hybrid framework but have failed to give full play to it. In this paper, we propose an omniscient framework to not only utilize the preceding SR output, but also leverage the SR outputs from the present and future. The omniscient framework is more generic because the iterative, recurrent and hybrid frameworks can be regarded as its special cases. The proposed omniscient framework enables a generator to behave better than its counterparts under other frameworks. Abundant experiments on public datasets show that our method is superior to the state-of-the-art methods in objective metrics, subjective visual effects and complexity. Our code will be made public.
Low-light image enhancement aims to improve an images visibility while keeping its visual naturalness. Different from existing methods, which tend to accomplish the enhancement task directly, we investigate the intrinsic degradation and relight the l ow-light image while refining the details and color in two steps. Inspired by the color image formulation (diffuse illumination color plus environment illumination color), we first estimate the degradation from low-light inputs to simulate the distortion of environment illumination color, and then refine the content to recover the loss of diffuse illumination color. To this end, we propose a novel Degradation-to-Refinement Generation Network (DRGN). Its distinctive features can be summarized as 1) A novel two-step generation network for degradation learning and content refinement. It is not only superior to one-step methods, but also is capable of synthesizing sufficient paired samples to benefit the model training; 2) A multi-resolution fusion network to represent the target information (degradation or contents) in a multi-scale cooperative manner, which is more effective to address the complex unmixing problems. Extensive experiments on both the enhancement task and the joint detection task have verified the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed method, surpassing the SOTA by 0.95dB in PSNR on LOL1000 dataset and 3.18% in mAP on ExDark dataset.
