Existing measurements of the angular distributions of the ground-state to ground-state transitions of the 12C(d,p)13C and 13C(p,d)12C neutron-transfer reactions have been analyzed systematically using the Johnson-Soper adiabatic and distorted-wave theories. When using a consistent set of physical inputs the deduced spectroscopic factors are consistent to within 20% for incident deuteron energies from 6 to 60 MeV. By contrast, original analyses of many of these data quoted spectroscopic factors that differed by up to a factor of five. The present analysis provides an important reference point from which to assess the requirements of future spectroscopic analyses of transfer reactions measured in inverse kinematics using rare nuclei.

The population of the 9.50 MeV 9/2+ resonance in 13C by single neutron transfer reactions is expected to be dominated by the two-step route through the 12C 2+ (4.44 MeV) state, with another possible contribution via the strongly excited 3- (9.64 MeV) resonance in 12C. However, we find that a good description of the angular distribution for population of this state via the 12C(d,p)13C reaction is only possible when both direct 0+ x g_9/2 and two-step (via the 4.44 MeV 12C 2+ state) 2+ x d_5/2 paths are included in a coupled reaction channel calculation. While the calculated angular distribution is almost insensitive to the presence of the two-step path via the 9.64 MeV 12C 3- resonance, despite a much greater contribution to the wave function from the 3- x f_7/2 configuration, its inclusion is required to fit the details of the experimental angular distribution. The very large interference between the various components of the calculations, even when these are small, arises through the ``kinematic effect associated with the different transfer routes.
In the present work, we report our in depth study of 12C(p,pgamma)12C reaction both experimentally and theoretically with proton beam energy ranging from 8 MeV to 22 MeV. The angular distributions were measured at six different angles. We discuss the gamma angular distributions, total cross sections values for 4.438, 9.64, 12.7 and 15.1 MeV states. We also describe the theoretical interpretation of our measurements using optical model analysis. We also report the branching ratios from our measurements. For the first time, we have measured the the cross section and branching ratio for the 9.64 MeV state.
Spectroscopic information has been extracted on the hole-states of $^{55}$Ni, the least known of the quartet of nuclei ($^{55}$Ni, $^{57}$Ni, $^{55}$Co and $^{57}$Co), one neutron away from $^{56}$Ni, the N=Z=28 double magic nucleus. Using the $^{1}$H($^{56}$Ni,d)$^{55}$Ni transfer reaction in inverse kinematics, neutron spectroscopic factors, spins and parities have been extracted for the f$_{7/2}$, p$_{3/2}$ and the s$_{1/2}$ hole-states of $^{55}$Ni. This new data provides a benchmark for large basis calculations that include nucleonic orbits in both the sd and pf shells. State of the art calculations have been performed to describe the excitation energies and spectroscopic factors of the s$_{1/2}$ hole-state below Fermi energy.
The behaviour of the Delta nu =2 CO bands around 2.3 micron was examined by comparing observed and synthetic spectra in stars in globular clusters of different metallicity. Changes in the 12C/13C isotopic ratio and the carbon abundances were investigated in stars from 3500--4900 K in the galactic globular clusters M71, M5, M3 and M13, covering the metallicity range from --0.7 to --1.6. We found relatively low carbon abundances that are not affected by the value of oxygen abundance. For most giants the 12C/13C ratios determined are consistent with the equilibrium value for the CN cycle. This suggests complete mixing on the ascent of the red giant branch, in contrast to the substantially higher values predicted across this range of parameters by the current generation of models. We found some evidence for a larger dispersion of CDC in giants of M71 of metallicity [mu] = [M/H] = -0.7 in comparison with the giants of M3, M5 and M13, which are more metal deficient. Finally, we show evidence for lower 12C/13C in giants of globular clusters with lower metallicities, as predicted by theory.
The $^{13}C(^{14}N,^{13}C)^{14}N$ proton exchange reaction has been measured at an incident energy of 162 MeV. Angular distributions were obtained for proton transfer to the ground and low lying excited states in $^{14}N$. Elastic scattering of $^{14}N$ on $^{13}C$ also was measured out to the rainbow angle region in order to find reliable optical model potentials. Asymptotic normalization coefficients for the system $^{13}C+pto {}^{14}N$ have been found for the ground state and the excited states at 2.313, 3.948, 5.106 and 5.834 MeV in $^{14}N$. These asymptotic normalization coefficients will be used in a determination of the S-factor for $^{7}Be(p,gamma)^{8}B$ at solar energies from a measurement of the proton transfer reaction $^{14}N(^{7}Be,^{8}B)^{13}C$.
