The $^{13}C(^{14}N,^{13}C)^{14}N$ proton exchange reaction has been measured at an incident energy of 162 MeV. Angular distributions were obtained for proton transfer to the ground and low lying excited states in $^{14}N$. Elastic scattering of $^{14}N$ on $^{13}C$ also was measured out to the rainbow angle region in order to find reliable optical model potentials. Asymptotic normalization coefficients for the system $^{13}C+pto {}^{14}N$ have been found for the ground state and the excited states at 2.313, 3.948, 5.106 and 5.834 MeV in $^{14}N$. These asymptotic normalization coefficients will be used in a determination of the S-factor for $^{7}Be(p,gamma)^{8}B$ at solar energies from a measurement of the proton transfer reaction $^{14}N(^{7}Be,^{8}B)^{13}C$.
The cross section of the radiative proton capture reaction on the drip line nucleus 12N was investigated using the Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) method. We have used the 14N(12N,13O)13C proton transfer reaction at 12 MeV/nucleon to extra
Existing measurements of the angular distributions of the ground-state to ground-state transitions of the 12C(d,p)13C and 13C(p,d)12C neutron-transfer reactions have been analyzed systematically using the Johnson-Soper adiabatic and distorted-wave theories. When using a consistent set of physical inputs the deduced spectroscopic factors are consistent to within 20% for incident deuteron energies from 6 to 60 MeV. By contrast, original analyses of many of these data quoted spectroscopic factors that differed by up to a factor of five. The present analysis provides an important reference point from which to assess the requirements of future spectroscopic analyses of transfer reactions measured in inverse kinematics using rare nuclei.
The astrophysical S-factor of 14N(p,gamma)15O has been measured for effective center-of-mass energies between E_eff = 119 and 367 keV at the LUNA facility using TiN solid targets and Ge detectors. The data are in good agreement with previous and recent work at overlapping energies. R-matrix analysis reveals that due to the complex level structure of 15O the extrapolated S(0) value is model dependent and calls for additional experimental efforts to reduce the present uncertainty in S(0) to a level of a few percent as required by astrophysical calculations.
The $^{22}$Ne(p,$gamma$)$^{23}$Na reaction in NeNa cycle plays an important role in the production of only stable sodium isotope $^{23}$Na. This nucleus is processed by the NeNa cycle during hot bottom burning (HBB) in asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stage of low metallicity intermediate mass stats (4 M$_O$ $leq$ M $leq$ 6 M$_O$). Recent measurements have addressed the uncertainty in the thermonuclear reaction rate of this reaction at relevant astrophysical energies through the identification of low lying resonances at E$_p$ = 71,105, 156.2, 189.5 and 259.7 keV. In addition, precise measurements of low energy behaviour of the non-resonant capture has also been performed and the contribution of the sub-threshold resonance at 8664 keV excitation in $^{23}$Na has been established. Here, in this article, we have presented a systematic R-matrix analysis of direct capture to the bound states and the decay of the sub-threshold resonance at 8664 keV to the ground state of $^{23}$Na. A finite range distorted wave Born approximation (FRDWBA) calculation has been performed for $^{22}$Ne($^3$He,d)$^{23}$Na transfer reaction data to extract the asymptotic normalization coeeficients (ANC-s) required to estimate the non-resonant capture cross sections or astrophysical S-factor values in R-matrix analysis. Simultaneous R-matrix analysis constrained with ANC-s from transfer calculation reproduced the astrophysical S-factor data over a wide energy window. The S$_{tot}^{DC}$(0) = 48.8$pm$9.5 keV.b compares well with the result of Ferraro, {it et al.} and has a lower uncertainty. The resultant thermonuclear reaction is slightly larger in 0.1 GK $le$ T $le$ 0.2 GK temperature range but otherwise in agreeent with Ferraro, {it et al.}.
The rate of the carbon-nitrogen-oxygen (CNO) cycle of hydrogen burning is controlled by the 14N(p,gamma)15O reaction. The reaction proceeds by capture to the ground states and several excited states in O-15. In order to obtain a reliable extrapolation of the excitation curve to astrophysical energy, fits in the R-matrix framework are needed. In an energy range that sensitively tests such fits, new cross section data are reported here for the four major transitions in the 14N(p,gamma)15O reaction. The experiment has been performed at the Laboratory for Underground Nuclear Astrophysics (LUNA) 400 kV accelerator placed deep underground in the Gran Sasso facility in Italy. Using a composite germanium detector, summing corrections have been considerably reduced with respect to previous studies. The cross sections for capture to the ground state and to the 5181, 6172, and 6792 keV excited states in O-15 have been determined at 359, 380, and 399 keV beam energy. In addition, the branching ratios for the decay of the 278 keV resonance have been remeasured.
