We propose a technique to design finite-length irregular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes over the binary-input additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with good performance in both the waterfall and the error floor region. The design process starts from a protograph which embodies a desirable degree distribution. This protograph is then lifted cyclically to a certain block length of interest. The lift is designed carefully to satisfy a certain approximate cycle extrinsic message degree (ACE) spectrum. The target ACE spectrum is one with extremal properties, implying a good error floor performance for the designed code. The proposed construction results in quasi-cyclic codes which are attractive in practice due to simple encoder and decoder implementation. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed construction in comparison with similar existing constructions.

Cyclic liftings are proposed to lower the error floor of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The liftings are designed to eliminate dominant trapping sets of the base code by removing the short cycles which form the trapping sets. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the cyclic permutations assigned to the edges of a cycle $c$ of length $ell(c)$ in the base graph such that the inverse image of $c$ in the lifted graph consists of only cycles of length strictly larger than $ell(c)$. The proposed method is universal in the sense that it can be applied to any LDPC code over any channel and for any iterative decoding algorithm. It also preserves important properties of the base code such as degree distributions, encoder and decoder structure, and in some cases, the code rate. The proposed method is applied to both structured and random codes over the binary symmetric channel (BSC). The error floor improves consistently by increasing the lifting degree, and the results show significant improvements in the error floor compared to the base code, a random code of the same degree distribution and block length, and a random lifting of the same degree. Similar improvements are also observed when the codes designed for the BSC are applied to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel.
In this paper, we study systematic Luby Transform (SLT) codes over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. We introduce the encoding scheme of SLT codes and give the bipartite graph for iterative belief propagation (BP) decoding algorithm. Similar to low-density parity-check codes, Gaussian approximation (GA) is applied to yield asymptotic performance of SLT codes. Recent work about SLT codes has been focused on providing better encoding and decoding algorithms and design of degree distributions. In our work, we propose a novel linear programming method to optimize the degree distribution. Simulation results show that the proposed distributions can provide better bit-error-ratio (BER) performance. Moreover, we analyze the lower bound of SLT codes and offer closed form expressions.

Professor Cunsheng Ding gave cyclotomic constructions of cyclic codes with length being the product of two primes. In this paper, we study the cyclic codes of length $n=2^e$ and dimension $k=2^{e-1}$. Clearly, Dings construction is not hold in this place. We describe two new types of generalized cyclotomy of order two, which are different from Dings. Furthermore, we study two classes of cyclic codes of length $n$ and dimension $k$. We get the enumeration of these cyclic codes. Whats more, all of the codes from our construction are among the best cyclic codes. Furthermore, we study the hull of cyclic codes of length $n$ over $mathbb{F}_q$. We obtain the range of $ell=dim({rm Hull}(C))$. We construct and enumerate cyclic codes of length $n$ having hull of given dimension.
Spatially-coupled (SC) LDPC codes have recently emerged as an excellent choice for error correction in modern data storage and communication systems due to their outstanding performance. It has long been known that irregular graph codes offer performance advantage over their regular counterparts. In this paper, we present a novel combinatorial framework for designing finite-length irregular SC LDPC codes. Our irregular SC codes have the desirable properties of regular SC codes thanks to their structure while offering significant performance benefits that come with the node degree irregularity. Coding constructions proposed in this work contribute to the existing portfolio of finite-length graph code designs.
In this paper, we perform a threshold analysis of braided convolutional codes (BCCs) on the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. The decoding thresholds are estimated by Monte-Carlo density evolution (MC-DE) techniques and compared with approximate thresholds from an erasure channel prediction. The results show that, with spatial coupling, the predicted thresholds are very accurate and quickly approach capacity if the coupling memory is increased. For uncoupled ensembles with random puncturing, the prediction can be improved with help of the AWGN threshold of the unpunctured ensemble.
