عندما أُحدِثَ التهاب في اللثة لوحظ ارتفاع ملحوظ للبروستغلاندين E في اللثة عند الجـرذان من نوع Wistar ، كما أن إعطاء الجرذان جرعات من الاندوميتاسين Endometacin فـي مرحلة الالتهاب الحاد من المرض يؤدي إلى انخفاض مستوى البروستغلاندين E فـي اللثـة و تحسين الحالة الالتهابية في الأنسجة حول السنية و الحالة العامة للحيوان . تم البرهان في هذا البحث على أهمية زيادة الاصطناع الحيوي للبروستغلاندين ( و من ثَم زيادة محتواه في اللثة ) في نشوء و تطور التهاب الأنسجة حول السنية، و أهمية اسـتخدام مثبطـات اصطناع البروستغلاندينات في معالجة هذا المرض .
Experimentally induced inflammation of the gingiva of wistar rats Shown remarkable increase in prostaglandins E. Adminstration of endometacin drug at the stage of acut inflammation has led to a dicrease of prostaglandins E level in the gingiva and the improvement of the periodontal inflammation and the general state of the animal . This research has proved the importance of increasing biosynthesis of prostaglandin E (and consequently the increase of prostaglandin E in the gingiva) in the begening and development of periodontal inflammation , in addition to the importance using prostaglandins synthesis inhibitors in the treatment of this disease .

In very low concentrations, Prostaglandin E2 affects the electrical and contractile
activity of the smooth muscles of the gastric antrum, and this leads to a decrease
in the potential polarization of the membrane, and the appearance of muscle
cont
ractions. Both calcium and sodium ions play an important role in the
mechanism of the effect of prostaglandin E2 on this activity.
The smooth muscles of gastric fundus do not show any spontaneous activity.
Experiments have shown that prostaglandin E2 leads to the inhibition of the
contraction produced by stimulation, but has the opposite effect on the gastric
antrum. Calcium ions play an important role in this activity.
