the fibroma's correlation with age, gender and the location of lesion, and then to conduct an analytical study of the collagenous and mineralized constituents between the lesions of the maxilla and mandible for the patients of the faculty of dentistr y, Damascus university. Methods & Materials: Our study covered 36 patients aged 9 – 40 years, (average 24.5 years old), 12 males and 24 females. Central cemento-ossifying fibroma was diagnosed and treated at maxillofacial surgery department, the oral histology and oral pathology department, faculty of dentistry, Damascus university, between 2004 and 2008. Biopsies were studied after they had been stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The analytical tables were made using SPSS program, issue 13.0 and Chi square test for Sig<0.05. Results: The clinical examination of the tumor showed hard swelling covered by normal mucosa. The proportion of tumors in females was 2:1 for males in the third decade of life. 58.3 of lesion were in the mandible mainly in premolars and molars. The histological study showed fibrous connective stroma of bundles of collagenous fibers including fibroblasts and mineralized materials either osseous, osteoid or cementoid. Bundles of collagenous fibers formed 55.6% of fibrous connective. The ratio of laminar bone trabeculae was varied between 40% for the maxilla and 67% for the mandible. Osteoid material existed by 60% in the maxilla and 33% in the mandible. 90.5% of mandibular tumor compared with 73% of that of the maxilla were surrounded by a true complete connective capsule. The statistics study showed a correlation between the mineralized materials and the location of lesion Sig<0.05. Conclusion: central cemento-ossifying Fibroma appeared much greatly in females of thirties and it trended to defeat the mandible more than the maxilla. There was an important correlation between the mineralized materials and the location of lesion.
Background and Objective : Bone morphogenic protine-2 (BMP-2) plays an essential role in mesenchymal cells differentiation into osteoblasts، through many intracellular pathways which crosses with tumoral pathways . Oral squamous cell carcinoma is a n invasive epithelial neoplasm، counts more than 90% of head and neck malignancies. It is classified into three degrees according to the epithelial cells differentiation. The study aimed to investigate the changes in BMP-2 expression according to the histological degrees of the tumor. Materials and methods : In the present study، BMP-2 expression was compared immunohistochemically among oral squamous cell carcinoma in 27 cases (19 male+8 female) ranging between (22-74) years، mean age of (48) years. Patients have been divided into 3 groups (each contain 9 case) according to the histological grade. Results : By analyzing the statistical results, No significant correlation between BMP-2 expression and the histological grad was observed. The severity of expression was not affected by the tumour degree. Changes in membranous localization and intense cytoplasmic staining were also not observed. Conclusion : according to this study BMP-2 does not represent a prognostic marker for the histological grade of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
Background & Objective: This immunohistochemical study is to investigate the correlation between p53 & Ki67 and the grade of malignancy of squamous cell carcinoma, to estimate functional behavior of the cancerous cell by Ck17, and to compare the resu lts with the histological grading. Methods & Materials: 64 samples (biopsies) were chosen to check for p53, Ki67 & Ck17 at department of oral histology and pathology between 2002- 2009. Conclusion: There is a strong positive correlation between the degree of malignancy and the signs of cellular atypism (morphological changes) and the immunhistochemical positivity specially p53 and Ki67, and there is a strong negative correlation between the positivity of p53, Ki67 and the plasmolymphatic infiltrate. We must be sure of the correct diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma by histological and immunohistochemical examination, and attention should be given to use more than one immune reactive.
Aim of study: study of the differences in the protein expression of Cyclin-dependent Kinase CdK1, CdK2 in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) and in clinically- normal oral mucosa.
