The purpose of this study was to determine the best method for age estimation by comparing scales, vertebrae and operculum of Acanthobrama marmid inhabiting the Tishreen Reservoir (Euphrates River). An overall of 194 specimens of Acanthobrama marmid were collected between 15/7/2011 and 15/5/2012 using appropriate gill nets. Each bony structure was examined independently by two readers without referring to any information except for the date of capture. The precision of the readers was estimated and ageing error was determined by analysis of variation. Our results showed that vertebrae were determined to be the best reliable bony structure for ageing Acanthobrama marmid because of them having the highest precision and the lowest ageing error.

The goal of this study is to compare three bony structures in order to choose the best method for the age determination of Chondrostoma regium inhabiting the Tishreen Reservior (Euphrates River). So, 214 individuals were collected between 15/7/2011 a nd 15/5/2012 using appropriate gill nets. Scales, vertebrae and operculum were independently used by two readers to estimate the age. Mean ages were estimated for each bony structure-reader combination and the precision of age estimated from multiple readings was evaluated. Furthermore, the error of ageing was calculated. The results showed that the fish ages were varied between (2-6), (3-6) and (2-5) years- judged by scales, vertebrae and operculum respectively. Results also showed that vertebrae were the most reliable bony structure for estimating the ages of Chondrostoma regium as they had the highest agreement and the lowest ageing error.
This study aimed at determining the fish fauna composition in 16th of Tishreen Lake (Alkabeer Alshimali River). A total of 730 individual fishes were collected between April 2012 and March 2013 from five different sites along the lake /Alsafkoon, W ata-Alsheer, Alkerassat, Mazraet Alsheikh Deeb, and Alaqfaas area/. Our results showed the presence of only six main fish species belonging to three families (Tillapia zillii, Cyprinus carpio, Liza abu,Varicorhinus damascinus, Garra rufa and Garra lamta). The results also showed that Tilapia zillii was the most caught fish, and Wata-Alsheer was the richest site in the lake. These results showed a decrease in the number of fish species and their quantities compared to that in previous studies on the lake.
This study deals with the determination of total mercury concentration in the water taken from three sites on Al-Kabeer Al-Shemaly River ( near the industrial area and Al- Damat Lake, and 16 Tishreen Lake), also the effect of some physio-chemical p arameters including: DO, pH, T °C. of water in the three sites was studied. Results showed that the total mercury concentration was low in general, where the medium concentration in the three studied sites was 0.29 ppb and it was less than the permission level of total mercury in the surface water(> 10 ppb), the higher value of the medium concentration of total mercury(0.35, 0.31, 0.21)ppb was recorded in the Industrial Area, Damat Lake, then 16 Tishreen Lake, respectively. For the changes in the total concentration of mercury in the three studied sites during seasons of a year, was higher in Summer comparing with other seasons. The results showed positive correlation coefficient between the total mercury concentration and temperature, pH value, but it was negative with DO in Summer.
Thousands of dams have been built around the world, but, the date of construction is associated with a history of failures and collapse, due to the high water levels, generating higher returns consequences disastrous for the environment and society , when dam fails released very large amounts of water threatened the lives of persons and property, it returns to the short time available for warning and evacuation. This paper provides an overview of the most important reasons for the collapse, with a study about possibility failure product from supposed breach in 16 Tishreen dam, caused by the flow of water over the top, where the predicted of breach that leading to collapse is done and determine its characteristics, namely: High, width, time required to development of the breach, the maximum flow out of it, and also generate flood maps that represent the limits of the spread of flood wave downstream, in addition tosuggest a simplified plan for the evacuation Results led to the flooded wave caused by the collapsehurtling loaded adischargeabout 54631 , causes a wall of water with 17 meters high moves through the downstream river with 14 m/sec speed, the wave spreadover 45.24 ,causing submerge for 7 villages the most important of it Stkhers and Rodo which are completely submerged, and 30 economical facility the most important of it industrial area that also completely submerged, the water depths ranged from 2 to 17 meter, which causing heavy casualtiesand damage about 30000 people, and more than 7000peopleare expected to die, unless the actual preparations of emergency plan.
The statistical Study of Jointsarround 16 Tishreen lake dame region in ALKabir ALShimali river basin showed the presence of several main groups of Joints with directions NE-SW _ NNE-SSW, NW-SE, E-W. - Group NE-SW: showed correspond to with the fau lt structures of same directions which are normal and reversal faults and distributing geographically 1n Lattakia Kallas fault zone. Also it showes correspond to with the axis of folds of same direction, thus explained as longitudinal joints within these folds - Group NW-SE: showed correspond to with faults structures of same direction. which are left and right lateral strike slip faults, Spread over the entire study area. and it may(diagonal)shear group within the folds of NE-SW axes. - Group E-W:correspond to with normal faults structures.
