This paper proposes a novel Gap Reduced Minimum Error Robust Simultaneous (GRMERS) estimator for resource-constrained Nano Aerial Vehicle (NAV) that enables a single estimator to provide simultaneous and robust estimation for a given N unstable and uncertain NAV plant models. The estimated full state feedback enables a stable flight for NAV. The GRMERS estimator is implemented utilizing a Minimum Error Robust Simultaneous (MERS) estimator and Gap Reducing (GR) compensators. The MERS estimator provides robust simultaneous estimation with minimal largest worst-case estimation error even in the presence of a bounded energy exogenous disturbance signal. The GR compensators reduce the gap between the graphs of N linear plant models to decrease the estimation error generated by the MERS estimator. A sufficient condition for the existence of a simultaneous estimator is established using LMIs and robust estimation theory. Further, MERS estimator and GR compensator design are formulated as non-convex tractable optimization problems and are solved using the population-based genetic algorithms. The performance of the GRMERS estimator consisting of MERS estimator and GR compensators from the population-based genetic algorithms is validated through simulation studies. The study results indicate that a single GRMERS estimator can produce state estimates with reduced errors for all flight conditions. The results indicate that the single GRMERS estimator is robust than the individually designed H inifinity filters.
Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) is a vehicular technology that allows groups of vehicles on the highway to form in closely-coupled automated platoons to increase highway capacity and safety, and decrease fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The underlying mechanism behind CACC is the use of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) wireless communication networks to transmit acceleration commands to adjacent vehicles in the platoon. However, the use of V2V networks leads to increased vulnerabilities against faults and cyberattacks at the communication channels. Communication networks serve as new access points for malicious agents trying to deteriorate the platooning performance or even cause crashes. Here, we address the problem of increasing robustness of CACC schemes against cyberattacks by the use of multiple V2V networks and a data fusion algorithm. The idea is to transmit acceleration commands multiple times through different communication networks (channels) to create redundancy at the receiver side. We exploit this redundancy to obtain attack-free estimates of acceleration commands. To accomplish this, we propose a data-fusion algorithm that takes data from all channels, returns an estimate of the true acceleration command, and isolates compromised channels. Note, however, that using estimated data for control introduces uncertainty into the loop and thus decreases performance. To minimize performance degradation, we propose a robust $H_{infty}$ controller that reduces the joint effect of estimation errors and sensor/channel noise in the platooning performance (tracking performance and string stability). We present simulation results to illustrate the performance of our approach.
Parameters of the mathematical model describing many practical dynamical systems are prone to vary due to aging or renewal, wear and tear, as well as changes in environmental or service conditions. These variabilities will adversely affect the accuracy of state estimation. In this paper, we introduce SSUE: Simultaneous State and Uncertainty Estimation for quantifying parameter uncertainty while simultaneously estimating the internal state of a system. Our approach involves the development of a Bayesian framework that recursively updates the posterior joint density of the unknown state vector and parameter uncertainty. To execute the framework for practical implementation, we develop a computational algorithm based on maximum a posteriori estimation and the numerical Newtons method. Observability analysis is conducted for linear systems, and its relation with the consistency of the estimation of the uncertaintys location is unveiled. Additional simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SSUE approach.
The capability to switch between grid-connected and islanded modes has promoted adoption of microgrid technology for powering remote locations. Stabilizing frequency during the islanding event, however, is a challenging control task, particularly under high penetration of converter-interfaced sources. In this paper, a numerical optimal control (NOC)-based control synthesis methodology is proposed for preparedness of microgrid islanding that ensure guaranteed performance. The key feature of the proposed paradigm is near real-time centralized scheduling for real-time decentralized executing. For tractable computation, linearized models are used in the problem formulation. To accommodate the linearization errors, interval analysis is employed to compute linearization-induced uncertainty as numerical intervals so that the NOC problem can be formulated into a robust mixed-integer linear program. The proposed control is verified on the full nonlinear model in Simulink. The simulation results shown effectiveness of the proposed control paradigm and the necessity of considering linearization-induced uncertainty.
In linear systems theory its a well known fact that a regulator given by the cascade of an oscillatory dynamics, driven by some regulated variables, and of a stabiliser stabilising the cascade of the plant and of the oscillators has the ability of blocking on the steady state of the regulated variables any harmonics matched with the ones of the oscillators. This is the well-celebrated internal model principle. In this paper we are interested to follow the same design route for a controlled plant that is a nonlinear and periodic system with period T : we add a bunch of linear oscillators, embedding n o harmonics that are multiple of 2$pi$/T , driven by a regulated variable of the nonlinear system, we look for a stabiliser for the nonlinear cascade of the plant and the oscillators, and we study the asymptotic properties of the resulting closedloop regulated variable. In this framework the contributions of the paper are multiple: for specific class of minimum-phase systems we present a systematic way of designing a stabiliser, which is uniform with respect to n o , by using a mix of high-gain and forwarding techniques; we prove that the resulting closed-loop system has a periodic steady state with period T with a domain of attraction not shrinking with n o ; similarly to the linear case, we also show that the spectrum of the steady state closed-loop regulated variable does not contain the n harmonics embedded in the bunch of oscillators and that the L 2 norm of the regulated variable is a monotonically decreasing function of n o. The results are robust, namely the asymptotic properties on the regulated variable hold also in presence of any uncertainties in the controlled plant not destroying closed-loop stability.
In this paper, we present a space-and-time-synchronized control method with application to the simultaneous tracking/formation. In the framework of polar coordinates, through correlating and decoupling the reference/actual kinematics between the self vehicle and target, time and space are separated, controlled independently. As such, the specified state can be achieved at the predetermined terminal time, meanwhile, the relative trajectory in space is independent of time. In addition, for the stabilization before the predesigned time, a cascaded prescribed-time control theorem is provided as the preliminary of vehicle tracking control. The obtained results can be directly extended to the simultaneous tracking/formation of multiple vehicles. Finally, numerical examples are provided to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed scheme.
