In this article, an advanced differential quadrature (DQ) approach is proposed for the high-dimensional multi-term time-space-fractional partial differential equations (TSFPDEs) on convex domains. Firstly, a family of high-order difference schemes is introduced to discretize the time-fractional derivative and a semi-discrete scheme for the considered problems is presented. We strictly prove its unconditional stability and error estimate. Further, we derive a class of DQ formulas to evaluate the fractional derivatives, which employs radial basis functions (RBFs) as test functions. Using these DQ formulas in spatial discretization, a fully discrete DQ scheme is then proposed. Our approach provides a flexible and high accurate alternative to solve the high-dimensional multi-term TSFPDEs on convex domains and its actual performance is illustrated by contrast to the other methods available in the open literature. The numerical results confirm the theoretical analysis and the capability of our proposed method finally.

We propose a model reduction procedure for rapid and reliable solution of parameterized hyperbolic partial differential equations. Due to the presence of parameter-dependent shock waves and contact discontinuities, these problems are extremely challenging for traditional model reduction approaches based on linear approximation spaces. The main ingredients of the proposed approach are (i) an adaptive space-time registration-based data compression procedure to align local features in a fixed reference domain, (ii) a space-time Petrov-Galerkin (minimum residual) formulation for the computation of the mapped solution, and (iii) a hyper-reduction procedure to speed up online computations. We present numerical results for a Burgers model problem and a shallow water model problem, to empirically demonstrate the potential of the method.
In [2019, Space-time least-squares finite elements for parabolic equations, arXiv:1911.01942] by Fuhrer& Karkulik, well-posedness of a space-time First-Order System Least-Squares formulation of the heat equation was proven. In the present work, this result is generalized to general second order parabolic PDEs with possibly inhomogenoeus boundary conditions, and plain convergence of a standard adaptive finite element method driven by the least-squares estimator is demonstrated. The proof of the latter easily extends to a large class of least-squares formulations.
This paper presents a novel semi-analytical collocation method to solve multi-term variable-order time fractional partial differential equations (VOTFPDEs). In the proposed method it employs the Fourier series expansion for spatial discretization, which transforms the original multi-term VOTFPDEs into a sequence of multi-term variable-order time fractional ordinary differential equations (VOTFODEs). Then these VOTFODEs can be solved by using the recent-developed backward substitution method. Several numerical examples verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed numerical approach in the solution of multi-term VOTFPDEs.
In this paper, we propose a fast spectral-Galerkin method for solving PDEs involving integral fractional Laplacian in $mathbb{R}^d$, which is built upon two essential components: (i) the Dunford-Taylor formulation of the fractional Laplacian; and (ii) Fourier-like bi-orthogonal mapped Chebyshev functions (MCFs) as basis functions. As a result, the fractional Laplacian can be fully diagonalised, and the complexity of solving an elliptic fractional PDE is quasi-optimal, i.e., $O((Nlog_2N)^d)$ with $N$ being the number of modes in each spatial direction. Ample numerical tests for various decaying exact solutions show that the convergence of the fast solver perfectly matches the order of theoretical error estimates. With a suitable time-discretization, the fast solver can be directly applied to a large class of nonlinear fractional PDEs. As an example, we solve the fractional nonlinear Schr{o}dinger equation by using the fourth-order time-splitting method together with the proposed MCF-spectral-Galerkin method.
We propose and analyze a robust BPX preconditioner for the integral fractional Laplacian on bounded Lipschitz domains. For either quasi-uniform grids or graded bisection grids, we show that the condition numbers of the resulting systems remain uniformly bounded with respect to both the number of levels and the fractional power. The results apply also to the spectral and censored fractional Laplacians.
