We have measured temperature and magnetic field dependences of the thermal conductivity along the c-axis, kc, and that along the [110] direction, k110, of CuB2O4 single crystals in zero field and magnetic fields along the c-axis and along the [110] direction. It has been found that the thermal conductivity is nearly isotropic and very large in zero field and that the thermal conductivity due to phonons is dominant in CuB2O4. The temperature and field dependences of kc and k110 have markedly changed at phase boundaries in the magnetic phase diagram, which has been understood to be due to the change of the mean free path of phonons caused by the change of the phonon-spin scattering rate at the phase boundaries. It has been concluded that thermal conductivity measurements are very effective for detecting magnetic phase boundaries.

In this work we study the phase diagram of Kekul{e}-Kitaev model. The model is defined on a honeycomb lattice with bond dependent anisotropic exchange interactions making it exactly solvable in terms of Majorana representation of spins in close analogy to the Kitaev model. However, the energy spectrum of Majorana fermions has a multi-band structure characterized by Chern numbers 0, $pm$1, and $pm2$. We obtained the phase diagram of the model in the plane of exchange couplings and in the presence of a magnetic field and found chiral topological and trivial spin-liquid ground states. In the absence of magnetic field most part of the phase diagram is a trivial gapped phase continuously connected to an Abelian phase, while in the presence of the magnetic field a topological phase arises. Furthermore, motivated by recent thermal measurements on the spin-liquid candidate $alpha$-RuCl$_{3}$, we calculated the thermal Hall conductivity at different regimes of parameters and temperatures and found the latter is quantized over a wide range of temperatures.
La1.8-xEu0.2SrxCuO4 (LESCO) is the member of the 214 family which exhibits the largest intervals among the structural, charge ordering (CO), magnetic, and superconducting transition temperatures. By using new dc transport measurements and data in the literature we construct the phase diagram of LESCO between x = 0.8 and 0.20. This phase diagram has been further probed in ac, by measuring the optical conductivity {sigma}1({omega}) of three single crystals with x = 0.11, 0.125, and 0.16 between 10 and 300 K in order to associate the extra-Drude peaks often observed in the 214 family with a given phase. The far-infrared peak we detect in underdoped LESCO is the hardest among them, survives up to room temperature and is associated with charge localization rather than with ordering. At the CO transition for the commensurate doping x = 0.125 instead the extra-Drude peak hardens and a pseudogap opens in {sigma}1({omega}), approximately as wide as the maximum superconducting gap of LSCO.
Strong evidence for charge-density correlation in the underdoped phase of the cuprate YBa2Cu3Oy was obtained by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and resonant x-ray scatter- ing. The fluctuations were found to be enhanced in strong magnetic fields. Recently, 3D (three dimensional) charge-density wave (CDW) formation with long-range order (LRO) was observed by x-ray diffraction in H >15 T. To elucidate how the CDW transition impacts the pair condensate, we have used torque magnetization to 45 T and thermal conductivity $kappa_{xx}$ to construct the magnetic phase diagram in untwinned crystals with hole density p = 0.11. We show that the 3D CDW transitions appear as sharp features in the susceptibility and $kappa_{xx}$ at the fields HK and Hp, which define phase boundaries in agreement with spectroscopic techniques. From measurements of the melting field Hm(T) of the vortex solid, we obtain evidence for two vortex solid states below 8 K. At 0.5 K, the pair condensate appears to adjust to the 3D CDW by a sharp transition at 24 T between two vortex solids with very different shear moduli. At even higher H (42 T) the second vortex solid melts to a vortex liquid which survives to fields well above 45 T. de Haas-van Alphen oscillations appear at fields 24-28 T, below the lower bound for the upper critical field Hc2.
Low-temperature, high-field (H[-110] <= 7.5 T), neutron diffraction experiments on single-crystal Ce0.70Pr0.30B6 are reported. Two successive incommensurate phases are found to exist in zero field. The appearance, for H >= 4.6 T at T = 2 K, of an antiferromagnetic structure, k{AF} = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2), most likely due to an underlying antiferroquadrupolar order, is discussed in connection with recent x-ray diffraction experiments.

Magnetic structure of single crystalline TmB4 has been studied by magnetization, magnetoresistivity and specific heat measurements. A complex phase diagram with different antiferromagnetic (AF) phases was observed below TN1 = 11.7 K. Besides the plateau at half-saturated magnetization (1/2 MS), also plateaus at 1/9, 1/8 and 1/7 of MS were observed as function of applied magnetic field B//c. From additional neutron scattering experiments on TmB4, we suppose that those plateaus arise from a stripe structure which appears to be coherent domain boundaries between AF ordered blocks of 7 or 9 lattice constants. The received results suggest that the frustration among the Tm3+ magnetic ions, which maps to a geometrically frustrated Shastry-Sutherland lattice lead to strong competition between AF and ferromagnetic (FM) order. Thus, stripe structures in intermediate field appear to be the best way to minimize the magnetostatic energy against other magnetic interactions between the Tm ions combined with very strong Ising anisotropy.
