A relativistic electron-positron beam propagating through a magnetized electron-ion plasma is shown to generate both circularly and linearly polarized synchrotron radiation. The degrees of circular and linear polarizations depend both on the density ratio of pair beam to background plasma and initial magnetization, and a maximum degree of circular polarization $langle P_textrm{circ}rangle approx 18%$ is found to occur for a tenuous pair beam. We demonstrate that the generation of circularly polarized radiation is intrinsically linked to asymmetric energy dissipation of the pair beam during the filamentation instability dynamics in the electron-ion plasma. These results can help in understanding the recent observations of circularly polarized radiation from gamma-ray-bursts.

The propagation of a relativistic electron-positron beam in a magnetized electron-ion plasma is studied, focusing on the polarization of the radiation generated in this case. Special emphasis is laid on investigating the polarization of the generated radiation for a range of beam-plasma parameters, transverse and longitudinal beam sizes, and the external magnetic fields. Our results not only help in understanding the high degrees of circular polarization observed in gamma-rays bursts but they also help in distinguishing the different modes associated with the filamentation dynamics of the pair-beam in laboratory astrophysics experiments.

In situ generation of a high-energy, high-current, spin-polarized electron beam is an outstanding scientific challenge to the development of plasma-based accelerators for high-energy colliders. In this Letter we show how such a spin-polarized relativistic beam can be produced by ionization injection of electrons of certain atoms with a circularly polarized laser field into a beam-driven plasma wakefield accelerator, providing a much desired one-step solution to this challenge. Using time-dependent Schrodinger equation (TDSE) simulations, we show the propensity rule of spin-dependent ionization of xenon atoms can be reversed in the strong-field multi-photon regime compared with the non-adiabatic tunneling regime, leading to high total spin-polarization. Furthermore, three-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations are incorporated with TDSE simulations, providing start-to-end simulations of spin-dependent strong-field ionization of xenon atoms and subsequent trapping, acceleration, and preservation of electron spin-polarization in lithium plasma. We show the generation of a high-current (0.8 kA), ultra-low-normalized-emittance (~37 nm), and high-energy (2.7 GeV) electron beam within just 11 cm distance, with up to ~31% net spin polarization. Higher current, energy, and net spin-polarization beams are possible by optimizing this concept, thus solving a long-standing problem facing the development of plasma accelerators.
We consider a non-standard cosmological model in which the universe contains as much matter as antimatter on large scales and presents a local baryon asymmetry. A key ingredient in our approach is that the baryon density distribution follows Gaussian fluctuations around a null value $eta = 0$. Spatial domains featuring a positive (resp. negative) baryonic density value constitute regions dominated by matter (resp. antimatter). At the domains annihilation interface, the typical density is going smoothly to zero, rather than following an abrupt step as assumed in previous symetric matter-antimatter models. As a consequence, the Cosmic Diffuse Gamma Background produced by annihilation is drastically reduced, allowing to easily pass COMPTELs measurements limits. Similarly the Compton $y$ distorsion and CMB ribbons are lowered by an appreciable factor. Therefore this model essentially escape previous constrainst on symetric matter-antimatter models. However, we produce an estimation of the CMB temperature fluctuations that would result from this model and confront it to data acquired from the Planck satellite. We construct a angular power spectrum in $delta T / T_{CMB}$ assuming is can be approximated as an average of $C_ell$ over a Gaussian distribution of $Omega_B$ using Lewis & Challinors CAMB software. The resulting $C_ell$ are qualitatively satisfying. We quantify the goodness of fit using a simple $chi^2$ test. We consider two distinct scenarios in which the fluctuations on $Omega_B$ are compensated by fluctuations on $Omega_{CDM}$ to assure a spatially flat $Omega_kappa = 0$ universe or not. In both cases, out best fit have $Delta chi^2 gtrsim 2400$ (with respect to a fiducial $Lambda$CDM model), empirically excluding our model by several tens of standard deviations.

A novel deflection effect of an intense laser beam with spin angular momentum is revealed theoretically by an analytical modeling using radiation pressure and momentum balance of laser plasma interaction in the relativistic regime, as a deviation from the law of reflection. The reflected beam deflects out of the plane of incidence with a deflection angle up to several milliradians, when a non-linear polarized laser, with the intensity $I_0sim10^{19}$W/cm$^2$ and duration around tens of femtoseconds, is obliquely incident and reflected by an overdense plasma target. This effect originates from the asymmetric radiation pressure caused by spin angular momentum of the laser photons. The dependence of the deflection angle of a Gaussian-type laser on the parameters of laser pulse and plasma foil is theoretically derived, which is also confirmed by three dimensional particle-in-cell simulations of circularly polarized laser beams with the different intensity and pulse duration.
The self-consistent description of Langmuir wave and ion-sound wave turbulence in the presence of an electron beam is presented for inhomogeneous non-isothermal plasmas. Full numerical solutions of the complete set of kinetic equations for electrons, Langmuir waves, and ion-sound waves are obtained for a inhomogeneous unmagnetized plasma. The result show that the presence of inhomogeneity significantly changes the overall evolution of the system. The inhomogeneity is effective in shifting the wavenumbers of the Langmuir waves, and can thus switch between different process governing the weakly turbulent state. The results can be applied to a variety of plasma conditions, where we choose solar coronal parameters as an illustration, when performing the numerical analysis.
