In two recent papers (Phys. Rev. Lett. {bf 116} (2016) 033201; Phys. Rev. A {bf 94} (2016) 032331), the possibility of continuously varying the degree of entanglement between an elastically scattered electron and the valence electron of an alkali target was discussed. In order to estimate how well such a scheme may work in practice, we present results for elastic electron scattering from lithium in the energy regime of 1$-$5~eV and the full range of scattering angles $0^circ - 180^circ$. The most promising regime for Bell-correlations in this particular collision system are energies between about 1.5 eV and 3.0 eV, in an angular range around $110^circ pm 10^circ$. In addition to the relative exchange asymmetry parameter, we present the differential cross section that is important when estimating the count rate and hence the feasibility of experiments using this system.

Electron-impact ionization of lithium is studied using the convergent close-coupling (CCC) method at 25.4 and 54.4 eV. Particular attention is paid to the spin-dependence of the ionization cross sections. Convergence is found to be more rapid for the spin asymmetries, which are in good agreement with experiment, than for the underlying cross sections. Comparison with the recent measured and DS3C-calculated data of Streun et al (1999) is most intriguing. Excellent agreement is found with the measured and calculated spin asymmetries, yet the discrepancy between the CCC and DS3C cross sections is very large.
We report on a measurement of spin-momentum correlations in quasi-elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons with an energy of 720 MeV from vector-polarized deuterium. The spin correlation parameter $A^V_{ed}$ was measured for the $^2 vec{rm H}(vec e,e^prime p)n$ reaction for missing momenta up to 350 MeV/$c$ at a four-momentum transfer squared of 0.21 (GeV/c)$^2$. The data give detailed information about the spin structure of the deuteron, and are in good agreement with the predictions of microscopic calculations based on realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials and including various spin-dependent reaction mechanism effects. The experiment demonstrates in a most direct manner the effects of the D-state in the deuteron ground-state wave function and shows the importance of isobar configurations for this reaction.
We estimate the target-normal single-spin asymmetry at nearly forward angles in elastic electron-nucleon scattering. In the leading-order approximation, this asymmetry is proportional to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange (TPE) amplitude, which can be expressed as an integral over the doubly virtual Compton scattering (VVCS) tensor. We develop a model that parametrizes the VVCS tensor for the case of nearly forward scattering angles. Our parametrization ensures a proper normalization of the imaginary part of the TPE amplitude on the well-known forward limit expression, which is given in terms of nucleon structure functions measurable in inelastic electron-nucleon scattering experiments. We discuss applicability limits of our theory and provide target-normal single-spin asymmetry predictions for both elastic electron-proton and electron-neutron scattering.
Recent technological advances allowed the coherent optical manipulation of high-energy electron wavepackets with attosecond precision. Here we theoretically investigate the collision of optically-modulated pulsed electron beams with atomic targets and reveal a quantum interference associated with different momentum components of the incident broadband electron pulse, which coherently modulates both the elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections. We show that the quantum interference has a high spatial sensitivity at the level of Angstroms, offering potential applications in high-resolution ultrafast electron microscopy. Our findings are rationalized by a simple model.

We consider the problem of correct measurement of a quantum entanglement in the two-body electron-electron scattering. An expression is derived for a spin correlation tensor of a pure two-electron state. A geometrical measure of a quantum entanglement as the distance between two forms of this tensor in entangled and separable cases is presented. We prove that this measure satisfies properties of a valid entanglement measure: nonnegativity, discriminance, normalization, non-growth under local operations and classical communication. This measure is calculated for a problem of electron-electron scattering. We prove that it does not depend on the azimuthal rotation angle of the second electron spin relative to the first electron spin before scattering. Finally, we specify how to find a spin correlation tensor and the related measure of a quantum entanglement in an experiment with electron-electron scattering.
