Studies about the constructive aspects of noise and fluctuations in different non-linear systems have shown that the addition of external noise to systems with an intrinsic noise may result in a less noisy response. Recently, the possibility to reduce the diffusion noise in semiconductor bulk materials by adding a random fluctuating contribution to the driving static electric field has been tested. The present work extends the previous theories by considering the noise-induced effects on the electron transport dynamics in low-doped n-type GaAs samples driven by a high-frequency periodic electric field (cyclostationary conditions). By means of Monte Carlo simulations, we calculate the changes in the spectral density of the electron velocity fluctuations caused by the addition of an external correlated noise source. The results reported in this paper confirm that, under specific conditions, the presence of a fluctuating component added to an oscillating electric field can reduce the total noise power. Furthermore, we find a nonlinear behaviour of the spectral density with the noise intensity. Our study reveals that, critically depending on the external noise correlation time, the dynamical response of electrons driven by a periodic electric field receives a benefit by the constructive interplay between the fluctuating field and the intrinsic noise of the system.

We investigate the modification of the intrinsic carrier noise spectral density induced in low-doped semiconductor materials by an external correlated noise source added to the driving high-frequency periodic electric field. A Monte Carlo approach is adopted to numerically solve the transport equation by considering all the possible scattering phenomena of the hot electrons in the medium. We show that the noise spectra are strongly affected by the intensity and the correlation time of the external random electric field. Moreover this random field can cause a suppression of the total noise power.
We report on reversible electric-field-driven magnetic domain wall motion in a Cu/Ni multilayer on a ferroelectric BaTiO$_3$ substrate. In our heterostructure, strain-coupling to ferroelastic domains with in-plane and perpendicular polarization in the BaTiO$_3$ substrate causes the formation of domains with perpendicular and in-plane magnetic anisotropy, respectively, in the Cu/Ni multilayer. Walls that separate magnetic domains are elastically pinned onto ferroelectric domain walls. Using magneto-optical Kerr effect microscopy, we demonstrate that out-of-plane electric field pulses across the BaTiO$_3$ substrate move the magnetic and ferroelectric domain walls in unison. Our experiments indicate an exponential increase of domain wall velocity with electric field strength and opposite domain wall motion for positive and negative field pulses. Magnetic fields do not affect the velocity of magnetic domain walls, but independently tailor their internal spin structure, causing a change in domain wall dynamics at high velocities.
Efficient manipulation of magnetization at ultrashort time scales is of particular interest for future technology. Here, we numerically investigate the influence of the so-called field-derivative torque, which was derived earlier based on relativistic Dirac theory [Mondal et al., Phys. Rev. B 94, 144419 (2016)], on the spin dynamics triggered by ultrashort laser pulses. We find that only considering the THz Zeeman field can underestimate the spin excitation in antiferromagnetic oxide systems as, e.g., NiO and CoO. However, accounting for both, the THz Zeeman torque and the field-derivative torque, the amplitude of the spin excitation increases significantly. Studying the damping dependence of field-derivative torque we observe larger effects for materials having larger damping constants.
Rotation of MO6 (M = transition metal) octahedra is a key determinant of the physical properties of perovskite materials. Therefore, tuning physical properties, one of the most important goals in condensed matter research, may be accomplished by controlling octahedral rotation (OR). In this study, it is demonstrated that OR can be driven by an electric field in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$. Rotated octahedra in the surface layer of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ are restored to the unrotated bulk structure upon dosing the surface with K. Theoretical investigation shows that OR in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ originates from the surface electric field, which can be tuned via the screening effect of the overlaid K layer. This work establishes not only that variation in the OR angle can be induced by an electric field, but also provides a way to control OR, which is an important step towards in situ control of the physical properties of perovskite oxides.
Excitons in semiconductors and insulators consist of fermionic subsystems, electrons and holes, whose attractive interaction facilitates bound quasiparticles with quasi-bosonic character due to even-numbered pair spins. In the presence of a degenerate electron gas, such excitons dissociate due to free carrier screening, leaving a spectrally broad and faint optical signature behind. Contrary to this expected behaviour, we have discovered pronounced emission traces in bulk, germanium-doped GaN up to 100 K, mimicking excitonic behaviour at high free electron concentrations from 3.4E19/cm3 to 8.9E19/cm3. Consequently, we show that a degenerate, three-dimensional electron gas stabilizes a novel class of quasiparticles, named collexons, by many-particle effects dominated by exchange of electrons with the Fermi gas. The observation of collexons and their stabilisation with rising doping concentration, is facilitated by a superior crystal quality due to perfect substitution of the host atom with the dopant.
