In Coulomb drag, a current flowing in one conductor can induce a voltage across an adjacent conductor via the Coulomb interaction. The mechanisms yielding drag effects are not always understood, even though drag effects are sufficiently general to be seen in many low-dimensional systems. In this Letter, we observe Coulomb drag in a Coulomb-coupled double quantum dot (CC-DQD) and, through both experimental and theoretical arguments, identify cotunneling as essential to obtaining a correct qualitative understanding of the drag behavior.
Phonon-induced spin relaxation in coupled lateral quantum dots in the presence of spin-orbit coupling is calculated. The calculation for single dots is consistent with experiment. Spin relaxation in double dots at useful interdot couplings is dominated by spin hot spots that are strongly anisotropic. Spin hot spots are ineffective for a diagonal crystallographic orientation of the dots with a transverse in-plane field. This geometry is proposed for spin-based quantum information processing.
A system of an array of side-coupled quantum-dots attached to a quantum wire is studied theoretically. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by means of a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. Analytical expressions of the transmission probability and phase are given. The transmission probability shows an energy spectrum with forbidden and allowed bands that depends on the up-down asymmetry of the system. In up-down symmetry only the gap survives, and in up-down asymmetry an allowed band is formed. We show that the allowed band arises by the indirect coupling between the up and down quantum dots. In addition, the band edges can be controlled by the degree of asymmetry of the quantum dots. We discuss the analogy between this phenomenon with the Dicke effect in optics.

The voltage-controlled Berry phases in two vertically coupled InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots are investigated theoretically. It is found that Berry phases can be changed dramatically from 0 to 2$pi$ (or 2$pi$ to 0) only simply by turning the external voltage. Under realistic conditions, as the tunneling is varied from $0.8eV$ to $0.9eV$ via a bias voltage, the Berry phases are altered obviously, which can be detected in an interference experiment. The scheme is expected to be useful in constructing quantum computation based on geometric phases in an asymmetrical double quantum dot controlled by voltage.

We study the thermodynamics of ultrasmall metallic grains with level spacing $delta$ comparable or smaller than the pairing correlation energy, at finite temperatures, $T gsim delta$. We describe a method which allows to find quantum corrections to the effect of classical fluctuations. We present results for thermodynamic quantities in ordered grains and for the reentrant odd susceptibility in disordered grains.
