The analytic expression for the cross section of low-energy electron scattering in a strong Coulomb field is obtained. It is shown that in a wide energy region this cross section differs essentially from that obtained in the first Born approximation.

We report on the observation of discrete structures in the electron energy distribution for strong field double ionization of Argon at 394 nm. The experimental conditions were chosen in order to ensure a non-sequential ejection of both electrons with an intermediate rescattering step. We have found discrete ATI (above-threshold ionization) like peaks in the sum energy of both electrons, as predicted by all quantum mechanical calculations. More surprisingly however is the observation of two ATI combs in the energy distribution of the individual electrons.
Collisions of antiprotons with He-, Ne-, Ni-like, bare, and neutral uranium are studied theoretically for scattering angles close to 180$^{circ}$ and antiproton energies with the interval 100 eV -- 10 keV. We investigate the Coulomb glory effect whic h is caused by a screening of the Coulomb potential of the nucleus and results in a prominent maximum of the differential cross section in the backward direction at some energies of the incident particle. We found that for larger numbers of electrons in the ion the effect becomes more pronounced and shifts to higher energies of the antiproton. On the other hand, a maximum of the differential cross section in the backward direction can also be found in the scattering of antiprotons on a bare uranium nucleus. The latter case can be regarded as a manifestation of the screening property of the vacuum-polarization potential in non-relativistic collisions of heavy particles.
We propose to use the near-threshold electron scattering data for atoms to guide the reliable experimental determination of their electron affinities (EAs), extracted using the Wigner Threshold Law, from laser photodetachment threshold spectroscopy m easurements. Data from the near-threshold electron elastic scattering from W, Te, Rh, Sb and Sn atoms calculated using our complex angular momentum method, wherein is embedded the electron-electron correlations and core polarization interaction, are used as illustrations. We conclude with a remark on the relativistic effects on the EA calculation for the heavy At atom.
Hartree-Fock atom in a strong electric static field is considered. It is demonstrated that exchange between outer and inner electrons, taken into account by the so-called Fock term affects strongly the long-range behavior of the inner electron wave f unction. As a result, it dramatically increases its probability to be ionized. A simple model is analyzed demonstrating that the decay probability, compared to the case of a local (Hartree) atomic potential, increases by many orders of magnitude. As a result of such increase, the ratio of inner to outer electrons ionization probability became not too small. It is essential that the effect of exchange upon probability of inner electron ionization by strong electric field is proportional to the square of the number of outer electrons. It signals that in clusters the inner electron ionization by strong field, the very fact of which is manifested by e.g. high energy quanta emission, has to be essentially increased as compared to this process in gaseous atomic objects.
We consider the energy spectrum of emitted electrons in $beta$-decay. Exact Coulomb Dirac wave functions describing the $beta$-electron in the Coulomb field of the daughter nucleus are used. Further, the improved wave functions which include the scre ening of the Coulomb field due to the atomic electron cloud are also used. Thus, the interaction between the $beta$-electron and the field due to the daughter atom is treated within a nonperturbative approach. Are shown the modifications due to the screening on the $beta$ spectra and shown that those effects are very important. In addition, are addressed the contributions to the $beta$ spectra due to the exchange terms and shown that the corresponding effects can be substantial. Higher orders arising from the multipole expansion are considered. A comparison of the theoretical results obtained in this work has been made with recent experimental data and a very good agreement was observed.
